In Destiny, Bungie takes strict measures against cheaters: Since yesterday, the consoles of the biggest offenders are permanently banned.
Those who repeatedly break the rules will no longer be allowed to play. Not at all. Because Bungie is serious in the fight against cheaters.
Unfair methods are also used in Destiny. Especially the Trials of Osiris are often affected, to the detriment of the honest Guardians who want to earn the unique loot in a fair way. In the past, the ban hammer has been swung several times – but now it is said to hit harder.
The community manager Chris Shannon, better known as Cozmo, announced yesterday that permanent console bans will be issued if the hardware has already been used multiple times for offenses. What exactly does this mean?
The difference between “Restriction” and “Ban”
If a cheater receives an Account Restriction, it means that they temporarily have no access to all activities in the game. At least not with this account. After the restriction period, they can play Destiny as usual again.
Furthermore, it is possible that a cheater receives “only” an Activity Restriction. Here, they can no longer play a specific content, such as the Trials of Osiris, for a certain period of time. In this case, the cheater also loses access to the gear and items associated with this activity, for example, to the Osiris gear.
Account Bans, on the other hand, are permanent. There is no way to appeal a ban or to get rid of it. However, these bans are only issued after a thorough review of the account. No innocent players are punished. Bungie states: “If your account is affected, there is a good reason for it.”
Only those cheaters whose consoles have had multiple accounts already restricted or banned will receive a Console Ban. The console may also be banned if modified hardware or firmware is detected. On this console, it is no longer possible to participate in activities in Destiny with any account.
By the way: Even if you buy a used console that has been banned, you still cannot play Destiny on it.
Should fair Guardians be worried?
Bungie says: No. If you are just playing the game, nothing can happen to you. Enjoyment in many forms is encouraged. You can play in the way that is most entertaining for you. You can read about what can lead to an account restriction or ban in the Bungie Guidelines.
