In the MMO shooter Destiny players collect raisins – and celery too. Why? Something exciting could still happen with them. Destiny 2 is changing that now.
The news that nothing from Destiny 1 will carry over to the successor Destiny 2, hit the Guardians hard: No weapons, no gear, no ships will survive the Cabal attack on the Tower.

Slowly, some Guardians are realizing the full extent of this statement: The raisins and celery are gone too!
Useless items raisins and celery enjoy cult status in Destiny
Bungie introduced the raisins as a joke during the first Halloween festival in Destiny. That was the “Festival of the Lost” in October 2015. While other NPCs were handing out masks and gifts celebrating the festival, the sourpuss Kassandra of the Destiny universe, Eris Morn, only gave raisins to every player.
In the USA, this is a Halloween tradition feared by children. The little ones are out for candy while they go door to door. If health-conscious adults only stuff “raisins” in their bags, that’s mean and is like a declaration of war.
It was meant as a gag by Bungie: Eris Morn doesn’t care about festivities; she’s the type who gives away raisins.

But players saw the raisins as a “mystery” that would eventually be unraveled. Gaming sites like the dreaded tabloid Mein-MMO.de wrote, “The function of these items is still unclear.” Not yet!
Since October 2015, Guardians have hoarded the raisins, waiting to trade them someday in a secret quest for something very special as a reward – something that the Destiny gods will grant only to the truly faithful!
The celery took it to the next level
A year later, when the Festival of the Lost returned in Destiny, Bungie showed that they had noticed this dedication. Bungie introduced an absurdly long quest chain involving Eris Morn, which began with a new box of raisins that sent Guardians racing through the entire Tower and ended with “celery.” Along the way, the shader “Superblack” was also released – and indeed a “piece of celery.”

Well, alright! Guardians said to themselves and packed the celery with the raisins in their vault: It must be good for something!
Destiny 2 on the horizon
Now with Destiny 2 on the horizon, it looks like Guardians will lose raisins and celery in the transition to the new title.
The years of storing the vegetables in the chronically too small vault would be in vain. The faith in the raisins would have been useless.
That can’t be true! Some Guardians on reddit are therefore demanding: Bungie, take everything away from me, but please leave me the raisins!
Admit it: You all still collect raisins and celery too.
