A new patch has been announced for Destiny that is set to revise Silver Dust and Dusty Iron Engrams. There is also a note regarding Skeleton Keys.
Silver Dust is a new currency in Destiny that was introduced with “Rise of Iron.” You need it to apply ornaments or to purchase ornaments from Xur. However, there are not many ways to obtain Silver Dust, and the quickest way by far is to invest real money. The community is not pleased with that.
The community manager Cozmo has now spoken up in the Bungie forum and initially thanked the players for their great feedback regarding Silver Dust. It will be revised with an upcoming patch – no release date known yet.
Some changes to the Eververse are coming, which will go live gradually in small steps. The first step is this upcoming patch.
This will change the Silver Dust economy to enhance the player experience. Bungie wants players who conquer the toughest challenges in “Rise of Iron” to be rewarded for their success. Therefore, you will no longer need Silver Dust to equip ornaments from the Trials, “Wrath of the Machine,” and the “Iron Lord” armor. However, you will still need the currency for exotic weapon ornaments.
Furthermore, the Dusty Iron Engrams will also be adjusted: If you dismantle the gear you find in them, you currently receive Legendary Marks. After the patch, you should receive Silver Dust for that.
However, there are still bigger changes to the Silver Dust economy planned for winter to create a more positive player experience.
Many users are not satisfied with these changes yet: Bungie needs to do more, one comment states. Another Guardian demands simply lowering the prices for the ornaments at Xur, as 25 Silver Dust without real money investment is quite a lot. However, some players are also optimistic and see this patch as a step in the right direction.
Don’t hoard too many skeleton keys
Bungie also provided a note about the skeleton keys just a few hours ago: You can carry a maximum of 5 with you. All additional keys will be sent to the Postmaster. However, there is a problem that these keys can be lost at the Postmaster if you have five keys in your inventory and want to pick them up from the Postmaster.
Therefore, Bungie recommends storing the keys in the Vault first and then trying to get the skeleton keys from the Postmaster. Keep in mind that the Postmaster has a limited number of slots. New items sent there can “kick out” old items.
What do you think of the changes to Silver Dust? How would you improve this currency?
