Icebreaker – That’s What I Call a Comeback!
With over 11% of all kills in the Trials, the exotic sniper rifle Icebreaker is the dominant special weapon. Interestingly, it is the third weapon in our list of the 6 best Trials weapons that can bypass the special ammo nerf in February 2017.
Because Icebreaker is capable of regenerating its ammunition. Guardians previously used this primarily in PvE to master raids or nightfall strikes solo and safely from a distance. One would hide behind cover and snipe everything that came into view. Since the ammo regenerates by itself, one did not need to leave cover.
In Year 3, Icebreaker returned as part of the “The Dawning” event. Now it is once again a viable weapon in PvE, but it shines particularly in PvP. With 11.3% of all kills, it ranks first among special weapons in the Trials, followed by The Wermut with 9.3% and The Matador 64, which with 1.46% is a significantly behind third.

Already in Year 1, Icebreaker was one of the most popular and best weapons in the game. If any weapon came close to the cult surrounding the Gjallarhorn, it was Icebreaker. However, in Year 2, it was left behind. Given its current performance, one can only say: it was a successful comeback in Year 3!
