With The Final Shape, Bungie will conclude the “Light and Darkness” saga of Destiny 2 in Summer 2024. The Guardians are preparing for the final battle against the Witness, and the launch trailer confuses the players.
What does the trailer show? The launch trailer for The Final Shape shows us several video sequences from the campaign of the expansion. Ikora explains that she “doesn’t want to bury any more friends,” Cayde-6 wants to “prevent the end of everything,” and Zavala… Zavala is offered by the Witness to switch sides.
Ikora pleads with Zavala not to do “that.” She previously stated that the Witness is only showing them what he thinks are their desires and is lying to them. The trailer then becomes significantly more action-packed, with fights breaking out, and Ikora gets shot in the back. Meanwhile, Cayde and Crow are fighting side by side.
We do not find out what happens with Zavala or if he joins the Witness. However, some players already believe in a betrayal on social media.

What do fans say about the trailer? The launch trailer is very well received in the Destiny 2 community. One player even writes on YouTube: “The trailer is better than the last Star Wars movie Episode 9.”
However, many fans are also confused. What will happen to Zavala? What will happen to Ikora? Some players have already made speculations that would resemble a horror scenario:
