In Season 6 of Destiny 2, the Nine play an important role. You will soon receive an invitation from them if you own the Annual Pass.
Who are the Nine? So far, little is known about the Nine. They are said to be the rulers of the Jovians, the worlds beyond the asteroid belt of the solar system. Additionally, it is known that they live in an “Unknown Space” – a kind of alternative dimension.
Until now, the Guardians have made contact with them through the Agents of the Nine, with the most well-known agent being the Exotic dealer Xur. In Season 6 of Destiny 2, we will learn more about the mysterious Nine.
What are the Nine doing in Season 6? Bungie reveals that the Drifter – the Gambit Overseer – is entering into a dangerous alliance with the Nine. The Guardians will encounter the Nine in Season 6 in two ways:
- You will receive invitations from the Nine from Xur
- You will enter the Unknown Space of the Nine – where you will play a new PvE mode called “Settlement”.

These are the invitations of the Nine: The invitations of the Nine are game content that will only be available to Annual Pass holders. So far, they have been referred to as “Xur Bounties”, but they are officially called “Invitations of the Nine”.
These invitations will delve deeper into the Nine and their mysterious place in the universe.
When will I receive the first invitation? It starts on March 15. That’s a Friday. Xur will bring this invitation as soon as he appears. You will then need to complete certain tasks. The invitation will then turn into a bounty called “Into the Unknown”. Each of these bounties can be completed once per character. Every week – for nine weeks – there will be a new invitation.
What are the rewards for this? Through the invitations, you will gain new lore and powerful rewards, according to Bungie. The rewards will not be specified further.
Settlement as a new, fast-paced PvE mode
When does the mode “Settlement” start? It is a mode that has multiple stages. The stages will be unlocked gradually:
- On March 5, right at the start of Season 6, Settlement Stage 1 begins.
- Stage 2 starts on March 8
- Stage 3 starts on March 15. This is also the day the invitations of the Nine begin.
Who can play Settlement? Settlement is reserved for Annual Pass holders.
What kind of mode is Settlement? Gameplay and an explanation can be seen in the ViDoc for Season 6 (from 5:15, that part is marked):
You travel through a portal to the Unknown Space of the Nine. This is apparently located inside the thick sphere that the Drifter pulls behind his ship. In it, you will experience a PvE challenge.
According to the developers, the mode is quite intense. In Settlement, you initially find complete chaos. You have to move quickly, you have to kill quickly. You will be attacked from all sides. Memories of the Crota raid from Destiny 1 are to arise here.
Each stage is said to become more chaotic than the last. Additionally, a timer is running – it is also a race against time.
Through this mode, you should acquire armor pieces that you can use in the new Gambit mode.
