In less than a month, Destiny 2 Shadowkeep and the Free-2-Play version New Light will launch. Just before the launch, Bungie has now reduced the price of existing paid content. Some will even be free. However, not all players are happy about this.
What is changing? Just before the release of Shadowkeep, Bungie is trying to ensure that as many Guardians as possible start the new era of Destiny 2 with the same content and can experience everything the game has to offer together.
Therefore
- the Destiny 2 Complete Collection for the PS4 and Xbox One is being reduced in price. It now costs €24.99 in the respective stores. This offer will also be available on Steam starting October 1st.
- all owners of Forsaken, who do not yet own the Annual Pass for Year 2, will receive it for free on September 17th.
The official Twitter account of Destiny 2 recently announced this.
What does it mean for the players? For players who already own Forsaken as well as the Annual Pass content, nothing changes.
However, if you have purchased the Forsaken expansion but refrained from buying the Annual Pass, you will soon receive the Annual Pass for Year 2 for free. You will thus gain free access to the premium content of Seasons 5 to 7 – that is, the complete Year 2 content.
Players who have not yet obtained Forsaken and the corresponding Annual Pass, or who may want to start with the Free-2-Play version Destiny 2: New Light, now have an opportunity to purchase the missing paid content at a lower price in a package.
Because the Destiny 2 Forsaken Complete Collection includes the base game, all previously released expansions including Forsaken, and the Annual Pass for Year 2.
Even if you switch from PS4 or Xbox One to PC via Cross-Save, you now have an opportunity to purchase the missing paid content in a budget-friendly bundle so you can use it on the new platform as well.
What do the fans say about this? Currently, this news is being received with mixed feelings. On one hand, many Guardians are happy that the Annual Pass for Forsaken owners is becoming free. Some are even calling it a very customer-friendly move. However, there are also many fans who are upset about it.
After all, they paid €35 for this content less than a year ago when they purchased the Annual Pass individually. Many of them are now asking Bungie: What about us? About those who already own the Annual Pass? Those who have already spent money on it? What makes it particularly frustrating is that some players just recently bought the pass.
However, it is currently unknown whether there will be any form of reward, bonus, or similar compensation for Guardians who already own the Year 2 Pass. Bungie has not commented on this yet.
What do you think of this step? A fair gesture or a slap in the face for all previous Annual Pass buyers?
