With the Forsaken expansion, Destiny 2 is set to become a better game. A high-ranking representative from Microsoft’s management has now put forward an idea to make the game even better for Guardians: crossplay between PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Destiny with positive news: Since the reveal of the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2, Bungie can finally attract attention again with positive headlines. What has been known and seen so far about the upcoming fall add-on suggests that the studio has taken to heart much of the fan criticism. With Forsaken, Bungie is making a serious attempt to address the biggest weaknesses of Destiny 2.

Now, Microsoft’s management has spoken up and made a proposal on how to enhance the Destiny experience for fans and bring the Guardian community closer together.
Xbox Corporate Vice President brings crossplay for Destiny 2 into play
Xbox Vice President wishes for crossplay: Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Xbox, Mike Ybarra, expressed on Twitter his desire for a crossplay feature for Destiny 2 between Xbox One, PS4, and PC. He simultaneously launched a poll to gather fans’ opinions. With nearly 33,000 participants, the response is very clear: 87% want such a feature, while 13% are against it.
In the comments to the tweet, a lively discussion erupted regarding the prospects and possible hurdles, involving not only numerous fans but also some prominent figures from the Destiny community like King Gothalion or Fallout Plays.
Cross-save – yes, certainly: Among other things, there was debate about cross-save and cross-platform PvP. In response to a fan’s comment that he would also like to see a cross-save feature for Destiny 2, Ybarra added, “Yes, that too.”
Hurdle “PvP”: When it came to how the cross-platform feature should function in PvP – especially considering the differences between “mouse & keyboard” and controller – the Microsoft Vice President responded: “In PvP, it would be based on players’ wishes. One could consider a purely controller option or a mixed option.”

Some fans added that other titles like Gears of War 4 have platform-specific PvP, while some cooperative PvE elements are cross-platform. That could also be a possibility for crossplay in Destiny 2.
What are the chances for a cross-play feature? The discussions around crossplay are not new. Almost a year ago, Microsoft opened up to crossplay, allowing Minecraft and Rocket League fans on Xbox to play with other systems. Microsoft also called on other companies to follow suit in this area.
Some companies followed this call. But Sony decided against it – and it is actually about Sony and the PlayStation 4 in this discussion. All attempts to establish crossplay between Sony and other platforms have so far been unsuccessful.
Sony remains stubborn: And a change is not really in sight. Sony remains stubborn and hard in this regard. Recently, PS4 Fortnite players were surprised to find that they could not log in with their data on Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch, as they had already played with their account on PS4.
A crossplay function seems rather unlikely given the current situation. But who knows, perhaps such a proposal from Microsoft’s management combined with the fans’ reactions will bring movement into the matter.
Microsoft’s crossplay offensive: The Twitter initiative regarding Destiny 2 could be part of a Microsoft offensive to finally get Sony to budge, especially with the heated atmosphere surrounding Fortnite.
What about you? Would you be excited about a cross-play feature in Destiny 2? Would it make Destiny 2 a better experience?
