At the launch of Destiny 2, Eris Morn, the friendly lady with the crystal ball, was sorely missed. Where is she? And what mode of transport did she take?
Unfortunately, Eris couldn’t have used her own ship to escape when Ghaul and his Red Legion stormed the Tower. For it was destroyed in the fight against Oryx – thanks to a plan by Cayde-6. Should she really have fallen during the attack of the Red Legion?
No! Eris Morn is likely alive – and left the Tower before the Cabal attack. But why did she do that? And where did she go? We are on the search!
The story of Eris is about sacrifices
To understand the motivation behind Eris Morn’s actions, we look back at the past of the Guardian. Yes, Eris Morn was a Guardian, specifically a Hunter. She set out long ago to take down Crota, the son of Oryx. She set out with the following fireteam to the Moon to destroy Crota:
- Eriana-3 – Warlock and close friend of Eris
- Sai Mota – Also a Hunter, killed by Omnigul
- Vell Tarlowe – a Titan, killed by a servant of Verok and Alak-Hul
- Omar Agah – a Titan, destroyed by the heart of Crota
- Toland – a Warlock, also known as Toland the Shattered
Except for Eris, all members of the fireteam fell. But she also suffered losses. She lost her ghost and her eyes to the Hive. She replaced her eyes with the eyes of a Hive opponent – including the third eye.
Eris has made it her mission to learn everything about the Hive and to fight them. So where has she gone? The Grimoire cards from Destiny 1 give clues!
Eris’ encounter with Asher Mir
Already in Destiny 1, we could find hints about the whereabouts of Eris Morn. The description of the Grimoire card Ghost Fragment: Eris Morn (Location: Crucible map Anomaly below the Anomaly) tells of an encounter between Eris Morn and Asher Mir in a hospital at the Tower. Asher Mir is unconscious and Eris Morn delivers a monologue about her intentions to leave the Tower.
“I must find a new way through the night. The Hive is immense and ancient. A power that stirs far beyond our realm. If we are ever to stand against them, to put an end to their hate, then I must leave the security of the city.” – Eris Morn
Not only was Asher Mir, a character in Destiny 2, mentioned during Destiny 1, Eris’ intention to leave the Tower has been known for many months (if one engages with the Grimoire cards). According to the Grimoire card, Eris made her way to the Hive during the last Dawning event. She seems to be alone, suggesting a scouting mission.
Is Eris Morn searching for Nokris?
But who or what exactly is she searching for? A name that is often mentioned in the community: Nokris. Little is known about the Hive deity. It was mentioned once in the game:
In the mission “Kings Fall” of the Destiny 1 expansion “The Taken King,” you encounter three statues.
Two represent Oryx and Crota, the third belongs to Nokris. However, your ghost will have to gather closer information. There are wild theories circulating online about who or what Nokris exactly is:
- Nokris is Oryx’s wife and was killed or banished after an attempted fall by Oryx,
- Eris Morn IS Nokris and has incited the Vanguard against the Hive gods Oryx and Crota to take her place. In fact, a significant power vacuum exists within the ranks of the Hive since the deaths of Crota, Oryx, and the Darkblade Alak-Hul,
- Nokris was destroyed by the Vex following a failed attack, her existence simply erased
- The theory that Nokris is Oryx’s father is also persistently held in forums
All theories have one thing in common: They are nothing more than that. The intriguing question remains – When will we see Eris Morn under what circumstances again, and will Nokris play a role in this?
Will Eris Morn make her comeback in a DLC?
The first DLC will be about Osiris, this is already known. There is significantly less information available for the second expansion. However, the symbol released by Bungie in advance clearly symbolizes the Warmind Rasputin.
The Hive already attempted to locate the Warmind and break into the bunker in Destiny 1. Among other things, the strike against Omnigul revolves around these events. In what form will we see the Hive again?
Does Eris reveal her true intentions and deceive the Guardians to team up with Nokris? Or does she return from a spy mission and send us on a mission to take down the next Hive deity? Will Eris show up again at all? The future will tell!
