In Destiny 2, the issue with vault space remains a topic of concern. Many players complain about having too few slots because they have collected many items and don’t know where to put them. However, Bungie announced with weapon crafting that the state of space shortage would improve, but it has only made it worse.
What is the problem? In Destiny 2, in the past, Guardians have often complained about the lack of vault space. Bungie then attempted to tackle the overflowing vaults by relocating many weapons and armor of players to the content vault. However, this did not work, as players are attached to their gear. Now, Bungie wanted to go on the offensive with weapon crafting.
The plan was to create more vault space by crafting your own god rolls, as each player only needs one copy of their dream weapon. However, many Guardians believe that the system is not fully thought out, and therefore the vaults are suffering even more than before.
More Vault Spaces? Not with Weapon Crafting
Bungie already wanted to address the overflowing vaults in the past with the content vault. However, the community threw criticism around. The developers quickly backtracked and found an adequate solution. The weapon crafting is supposed to support you with your full vault.
The plan was that since you can only craft one weapon to your god roll, you do not need multiple copies of it. Players could always reshape their gun to have the right weapon for every situation. However, with the new mechanics that came with crafting, the vaults will still end up being fuller.
What are players complaining about in Destiny 2? On Reddit, some Guardians express that weapon crafting does not work as advertised. Players believe that their vault and inventory are fuller than before.
To obtain crafting materials, you need to fill various weapons and their resonances. The creator of the reddit thread FC_mania states that players are forced to keep random rolls, as only these have the resonance feature.

So, if you play some activities, many weapons will accumulate that hold materials. These need to be harvested. However, if Guardians instead want to level their god roll and shoot with their favorite gun, the collection of weapons to be leveled does not stop.
You don’t want to destroy these resource providers either, as valuable materials essential for crafting would be thrown away. Not only that, but players also complain about the perks. These cost materials for each reshaping and therefore are not permanently unlocked.

Ultimately, crafting is a philosophy in itself, not bad, but it definitely needs some fine-tuning to be fully convincing. Now that Witch Queen has been released, we can only hope that Bungie takes the players’ feedback into account and polishes the system.
