A puzzle community without puzzles: Who among you knows the Destiny subreddit “Raidsecrets”? It was originally created to find the legendary sixth chest in the Destiny raid “Vault of Glass”.
The enthusiasts of this community failed in their search. However, the subreddit remained active and played a significant role in deciphering the outbreak prime, which was linked to one of the toughest puzzles Destiny has ever seen.
While there was much to discover in the belly of the Leviathan, the raid location in Destiny 2, a true puzzle atmosphere just wouldn’t come to life. However, that didn’t stop the Guardians of Raidsecrets from turning over every stone and searching for new clues – so far in vain.
As so often, chance came to their aid and reignited the enthusiasm of many Guardians.
How chance led to the Whisper of the Worm
The new prestige raid challenge of the Leviathan raid was quickly mastered, the first group only needed 20 minutes. The new faction rally couldn’t create the right atmosphere either. Farming lost sectors is just too monotonous.
An initially unremarkable post on Reddit then set the community ablaze. A public event on Io could create an anomaly under certain conditions, which represented the gateway to a mission that ultimately offered a sniper rifle that is now considered a legend in the Destiny universe.
The news spread like wildfire, as evidenced by the countless group requests in various communities. The fire was reignited, and the community finally worked together again to solve the puzzle.
Jump puzzle, tough opponents, time limit – finally sweating again!
High difficulty brings new excitement: No question, the mission is incredibly hard. A lengthy jump puzzle, tough opponents, and a time limit of 20 minutes provide the long-needed adrenaline rushes.
Anyone who wants not only the sniper but also the masterwork catalyst has to complete the mission at power level 400 once more. Although a shortcut through the jumping section has been discovered and the mission has been personally completed solo by Slayerage – many Guardians are still trying to obtain the best sniper rifle in the game.
Why the Whisper of the Worm is not the Black Spindle
The Black Spindle in a new form: The Black Spindle was considered the ultimate sniper rifle upon the release of the Crota raid. The triumvirate of Fatebringer, Black Spindle, and Gjallarhorn still brings tears of joy to some Guardians today.
The special perk “white nail” ensured that after three critical hits, the magazine would be refilled out of nowhere. The weapon was later nerfed, and an exotic variant named Black Spindle was introduced via quest. However, the Spindle could never recapture its former glory from the old Crota times.
Bungie bringing back the original variant is a clever move. The Whisper of the Worm is surely gonna help many Guardians through the summer drought. How strong the weapon actually is, has already been experienced by the raid boss Calus himself. Demonstrations of strength are sure to increase in the coming weeks.
If the Whisper of the Worm had come in the “Spindle” version, it would have attracted significantly fewer Guardians.
Despite recycling and time gating – a stir is going through the community
Admittedly, the return of the Black Spindle is further evidence of the recycling that Bungie is doing. More and more weapons from the predecessor are making their way to Destiny 2. Also, the fact that the quest was evidently activated by Bungie and is only available for a limited time rubs many Guardians the wrong way.
The unity in the Destiny community remains strong: Aside from these criticisms, a clear shift in mood can be observed. Bungie is receiving a lot of praise for the quest and for bringing the Black Spindle back in its original form.
Players are actively searching in the communities for groups to tackle the not-so-easy challenge; it feels like the searches for groups for other activities have also increased.
According to the Guardians, the Whisper of the Worm shouldn’t be the end: They desire more puzzles, more super weapons that can be earned in this manner. Forsaken is still a few weeks away. There was a great hand cannon in Destiny that turned enemies into giant Arc explosions with critical hits. Bungie, please?
