More about the release of “The Final Shape” can be found in our overview: Destiny 2: “The Final Shape” DLC – Everything about release, new abilities, weapons, enemies and editions
Bungie has announced major changes to the weapon sandbox for Destiny 2 that you will enjoy in “The Final Shape.” Many Exotics will be adjusted, and some of the major mods will be removed. We will show you the details.
What has Bungie announced? Destiny 2 is soon approaching the release of “The Final Shape” and as always, major changes to the weapon sandbox are made before such a large release. This time Bungie looked at various mods that Guardians use daily against the enemies of Light.
Many will be removed with the upcoming DLC, and on top of that, some Exotics will get a fresh coat of paint. Which mods are affected and which Exotics will emerge as winners or losers after the update, you’ll find out here.
Goodbye damage mods and hello weapon buffs!
What do the changes look like? Bungie has released a huge list of changes that deal with three things:
- Weapon archetypes
- Exotic weapons
- Perks
Five mods were examined for weapon archetypes that players can socket into almost any weapon: Boss Specification, Hive-specific Specification, Minor Specification, Major Specification, and Master Hard Mode Specification.
All of these mods provide damage bonuses for equipped Legendary weapons and were essential in PvE. However, with “The Final Shape,” they are completely removed. You will no longer be able to equip them, nor will you need to. Bungie plans to increase the base damage of many weapon archetypes of Legendary weapons. For details, please open our box:
All adjustments of weapon archetypes
- Increased PvE base damage against all combatants.
- Pulse rifles: 20 %
- Exceptions: Graviton Lance and “Heavy Salvo” mode of Revision Zero. (Both already have a PvE damage buff.)
- Pellet shotguns: 10 %
- Exceptions: Legend of Acrius, Tractor Cannon, Conditional Finality, and The Fourth Horseman. (These weapons work as intended.)
- Slug shotguns: 9 %
- Fusion rifles: 7 %
- Exceptions: One Thousand Voices. (This weapon only received a buff.)
- Sniper rifles: 7 %
- Exceptions: “Refined Edge” shots from Izanagi’s Burden and “Storm” from Cloudstrike. (Both show good performance.)
- Sword projectiles: 7 %
- Linear fusion rifles: 5 %
- Pulse rifles: 20 %
- Increased damage against weaker enemies (red bar) – stackable with the increase in PvE base damage.
- Pistols, submachine guns, scout rifles, and bows: 20 %
- Auto rifles and pulse rifles: 15 %
- For pulse rifles, this applies in addition to the buff mentioned above, and Graviton Lance as well as the “Heavy Salvo” mode of Revision Zero are also included.
- i.e. Pulse rifles deal 1.2 x 1.15 = 38 % more damage against red bars.
- For pulse rifles, this applies in addition to the buff mentioned above, and Graviton Lance as well as the “Heavy Salvo” mode of Revision Zero are also included.
- SMGs: 10 %
- Hand cannons: 5 %
- Increased damage against stronger enemies (orange bar).
- Submachine guns: 20 %
- Damage has been increased universally, including in PvP.
- Machine guns: 7 %
- Swords: 7 %
- Explosion damage has been reduced by 10 %. (Only Exotics)
- Sunshot
- Trinity Ghoul
- Polaris Lance
- Graviton Lance
- Weapons with kinetic damage will no longer deal bonus damage against bosses; damage against other combatant tiers remains unchanged.
- As an example: A kinetic sniper rifle and a stasis sniper rifle of the same sub-family deal the same damage against a boss.
While damage is generally increased, kinetic weapons will also no longer press a bonus damage against bosses compared to their elemental variants. For more details on further weapon adjustments, check out Bungie’s official TWiD (via bungie.net).
