In Destiny 2, the Heavy Machine Guns make a return. Bungie posted a short clip – and the community is going crazy.
Tweet causes excitement: A few hours ago, Bungie’s Communications Director DeeJ tweeted a GIF without any comment:
Even though this clip shows a Guardian reloading a weapon for just a few seconds, it says it all. No further words are needed. The community is going crazy.
Because the clip reveals: The Heavy Machine Guns will soon return in Destiny 2.
In the comments, guardians are saying they can’t like this tweet enough, that they want this weapon immediately, and that they’ve had to do without the LMGs long enough.

The Return of the Heavy Machine Guns
When will the LMGs be playable in Destiny 2? Bungie recently released a roadmap for year 2, where the return of the heavy LMGs is mentioned as a side note. According to this, they will arrive in December 2018.
They will be included in a free seasonal update that will be available to all Destiny 2 players.
Which LMG is featured in the teaser? Although only a piece of this LMG is visible, it is very likely the Thunderlord – an exotic machine gun from Destiny 1 that was very popular among guardians.
Why are the LMGs coming back? Before the release of Destiny 2, Bungie stated that they wanted to do without the Heavy LMGs, as only weapons in the power slot should exist that other guardians could take down in PvP with one shot. However, LMGs would have required several shots.
With Year 2, the weapon system with weapon slots is being overhauled – now there seems to be room again for the Heavy LMGs.
Is the Thunderlord Returning in Destiny 2?
Is it a coincidence that DeeJ uses the Thunderlord for the teaser? Probably not. The developers have already confirmed that other exotics from Destiny 1 will return in Destiny 2 Forsaken. So it is quite possible that we will see the Thunderlord again soon.
What made the Thunderlord stand out in Destiny 1? The Thunderlord was long regarded as one of the best weapons in PvE. It dealt Arc damage and had the exotic perk that the longer the trigger was held down, the faster and more accurately the weapon fired. Since enemies could explode upon a kill, the Thunderlord plowed through enemy crowds. Even tough bosses or PvP enemies were often shredded by its hail of bullets.
In terms of sound, style, handling, and once again sound, the Thunderlord was at the absolute top in Destiny 1.
In December 2016, the Thunderlord got two “brothers”, Abbadon and Nova Mortis, that operated like the Thunderlord but had different elemental damage. Perhaps we will see these in Destiny 2 as well.
By the way: It is known that the Thunderlord was once DeeJ’s favorite weapon. He probably had a mischievous joy in posting the upper clip.
