A web comic about Destiny 2 will be released during the holiday season. It provides more background story about the characters.
The expansion “Curse of Osiris” throws the Guardians right into a new story. Ikora Rey calls you to her. She wants you to seek out Osiris to avert a new danger on Mercury.
So you fly to Mercury, blast through the Infinite Forest, take down the Vex boss, and the story is over. We don’t learn too much new about the characters or the world. Especially Osiris is underrepresented. In the story, it is only mentioned that he was once the commander of the Vanguard and the mentor of Ikora. Moreover, he is said to be the most powerful Guardian of all. Sounds pretty cool – yet we don’t find out more about him.
That should now change. As Bungie unexpectedly announced, a web comic series will be published in the future. The first comic should be released next week. A specific date is still pending.
Since it’s a web comic, you can view it on your desktop or mobile devices. It will be available via Bungie.net. And the best part: It is free for everyone!
What can we expect from this web comic?
The web comic next week is called “Fall of Osiris.” It will delve into the origin story of Osiris and Ikora. In other words, we will get to know these two characters better. The comic will only be available in English.
Osiris was once a champion of the Last City. A Vanguard Commander. A seeker of secrets and a discoverer of wonders. But then everything changed. How did Osiris go from a hero to a traitor? This question will be answered in the comic, according to Bungie.
The short comic was written by Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics, Marvel’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) in collaboration with Christine Thompson (Narrative Lead at Bungie). The illustrations are by Zé Carlos. The cover, however, was designed by Marcio Takara, which you can see on the right side.

Tom says: On one hand, it’s really cool that we’re learning more about the Destiny universe in the form of a comic. On the other hand, Bungie promised in May 2017 that all lore in Destiny 2 would be told directly in the game. That was the reason why the Grimoire cards were removed.
We were supposed to get all information about the background story related to adventures, characters, campaigns, or scannable objects. And now we know: also through external sources in the form of comics. Apparently, it is not possible to tell the stories in the complex Destiny universe solely in-game.
