Good news for everyone who still wants to earn the popular rocket launchers “The Summit” and “Wendigo GL3” in Destiny 2. The quests for these two top weapons are supposed to become easier soon.
What does Bungie have planned? As Bungie recently announced in its “This Week at Bungie” blog, the quests for the top weapons “The Summit” and “Wendigo GL3” are set to become more accessible, meaning easier.
This is good news for everyone looking to earn these two rocket launchers. Rocket launchers are currently all the rage, and these two specimens are among the best that Destiny 2 has to offer in its arsenal.
What exactly is changing with the quests? Bungie did not go into detail. The studio only mentioned that certain quest tasks will be adjusted based on player feedback.
Many fans are now assuming that the grind for the required kills for both weapons, as well as the medal requirements explicitly for The Summit, could be lowered. These aspects have been criticized by many Guardians as too grind-heavy, unnecessarily prolonged, or just downright annoying.
Recently, many players complained about the sometimes enormous grind for the new Iron Banner gear. Bungie responded and made improvements with Update 2.5.2 to the most heavily criticized quest steps.
When will it happen? Players will have to be a little patient. The changes are set to be implemented with Update 2.5.2.2 for Destiny 2, which is currently scheduled for release on September 3.
What are these weapons anyway? Both affected rocket launchers are known as top weapons. Bungie refers to special legendary firearms that are hidden behind lengthy quests and are associated with enormous effort and time. For this effort, Guardians are rewarded with weapons that are among the best that Destiny 2 has to offer – including these two specimens.
Both The Summit and the Wendigo GL3 live up to their designation as top weapons. Both are among the best boss-killers in Destiny 2 and are therefore highly sought after.
In our reader survey, they were voted into 3rd (Wendigo) and 4th (Summit) places among 13 candidates regarding the best top weapons in Destiny 2.
What was the problem with the quests? Even though these firearms are very popular, the quests and the associated grind are not for many Guardians.
The game makes you work quite hard for The Summit in the Crucible. You need to achieve a lot of rocket launcher kills in PvP, then collect Double Plays (taking out at least 2 enemies quickly in a row) and earn “Calculated Trajectory” medals.
In competitive PvP, you make progress more quickly, but in Quickplay, the path to The Summit can turn into a true grind-fest, where many a Guardian has frustratingly given up – especially if they don’t have strong feelings about the Crucible.
For the Wendigo as well, you have to work quite hard, but here at least only in the Vanguard strike playlist. However, it is still required to
- achieve 1,500 rocket launcher final blows
- land 500 multi-kills with a rocket launcher
- and score 15,000 points (killing enemies), where your own deaths hinder progress
Only then can you claim the relatively new top weapon from the Vanguard for Season 7. For many players, this also feels like too much grind.
What do you think about Bungie’s plan to simplify the quests soon? Motivation for everyone who still wants them? Or a slap in the face for those who have already earned them?
