Destiny 2 will not receive weapon 2.0 in the near future, but there will be an important change regarding weapon mods.
Where does the information about the weapon mods come from? Bungie stated in the current “This Week at Bungie” blog that weapon mods will function differently in the future and the system will be altered. With the launch of Shadowkeep, the weapon mods will be revamped.
Weapon modifications will fundamentally change
What will change about the weapon mods? Weapon modifications will soon no longer be listed as consumables.
Instead, you will be able to use them as often as you want after the Shadowkeep release. First, you need to unlock a modification. After that, it can be applied freely. However, the modification must be in your inventory.
All mods in the inventory will soon be converted into unlockable mods.
Why is Bungie making weapon mods consumables? The developers want to give Guardians more freedom in their playstyle through the unlockable mods – similar to armor 2.0.
Players should experiment more and play with different mods more often. You can go through and test various combinations for your weapons to see which works best. However, you can only use a weapon modification on one weapon at a time.
If you want to use a specific modification in another weapon, you need to remove that mod from the current weapon or have the modification a second time in your inventory. However, both weapon modifications will not be consumed.
How do weapon mods currently work? Modifications enhance specific aspects of your weapons. These include magazine size, recoil behavior, and extra damage against certain enemy groups. They are currently considered consumables in Destiny 2. If you buy or receive a modification, you should think carefully about how you use it.
After using it once, it disappears from the inventory. Therefore, you have to reacquire or earn popular modifications in order to use them again. Those who want to experiment have had a hard time so far.
This is what the Guardians say about it: On Reddit, this topic seems to interest many players from the community. The top comment on the current Bungie blog post praises this change and receives a lot of support. Some Guardians are discussing the new weapon mods there and are already looking forward to the change.
What do you think about the unlockable weapon modifications? Do you welcome this change as well?
