With the update 2.1.3, Destiny 2 has received new security tools in the background. This allows Bungie’s Security Response Team to better address Guardians with poor connection quality, who spoil the gaming experience for others.
In online games, especially shooters, there is hardly anything more annoying than players with a poor connection. Even in Destiny 2, laggers are frustrating.
Bungie now wants to take stronger action against this. Players with consistently poor connection quality must now expect consequences.
What is the issue with connection quality? Do you sometimes encounter opponents who simply do not take damage? Have you ever been shot around a corner, missed the opponent because he was just teleporting back and forth (lagging)? Or did you only notice him after your own death, even though he was apparently standing right in front of you? This is often due to connection quality.
Sometimes the connection itself is really bad, other times the network settings are to blame. In some cases, the quality is even intentionally lowered (Lag Switch) to gain an advantage.
Bungie now wants to take a stronger stance on this and improve the PvP experience in Destiny 2.
How does Bungie plan to tackle the problem? Bungie already has various analysis tools running in the background, through which some players have already been identified who intentionally abuse their connection to gain an advantage in PvP.
Such Guardians will feel the banhammer accordingly, meaning they will be excluded from activities in the Crucible for a while.
With the update 2.1.3, Bungie has now introduced new security tools with a series of new measures that have been active since the weekly reset on December 18.
Soon, players with very poor connection quality will receive a warning in-game, indicating this problem. Players who currently have temporary issues do not need to worry. The tools can identify that.
If you receive such a warning, it is high time to take care of your connection if you want to continue playing PvP without restrictions. Bungie allows some time to fix the problem.
However, if the connection quality does not noticeably improve after a warning and continues to negatively affect the gaming experience of others, the respective Destiny account may be restricted from PvP activities.
What does the restriction look like? If you receive a restriction, it means that you will be excluded from the Crucible for two weeks and cannot participate in any PvP activities.
If, after the lifting of the restriction, you continue to play with an unreliable connection and spoil the gaming experience for other Guardians, the measure can be extended.
What should you do if you receive a warning? In that case, Bungie initially offers assistance and suggests the following measures:
- First, take a look at Bungie’s official network troubleshooting guide
- If that doesn’t help, the studio points to an advanced guide for diagnosing network problems
- If this measure also does not work, you need to contact your internet provider for help
