More and more players are eagerly waiting to know when Bungie will reveal the new Season 9 of Destiny 2. Because concrete information has been scarce so far. Now the studio has announced a date. We summarize what is currently known about the new season.
This is currently of great interest to many Guardians: Some players are becoming increasingly anxious. Because soon the current Season 8 will come to an end. It is already in its final days. However, there is currently hardly any information about the new season.
When exactly will Season 9 be revealed? In the current “This Week at Bungie” blog, the studio finally provided a specific date.
Season 9 will be revealed on Wednesday, December 4th, at 7 PM German time in a live stream. You can follow the stream on YouTube, Mixer, or Twitch.
What do we know so far about Season 9 in Destiny 2?
The start date of Season 9: With the weekly reset on December 10th, Season 8 will end in Destiny 2. As was already suspected by some, Season 9 will commence immediately afterwards, also on December 10th after the reset.
The name: Season 9 in Destiny 2 will be called Season of the Dawn in English. This was revealed shortly after the release of the Shadowkeep expansion. In German, it is now officially named Season der Dämmerung.
What is it about? It is not really known. Here we have only speculation alongside a few small snippets.
However, Bungie has already announced in advance of Shadowkeep that the new seasons (meaning in year 3) are meant to connect and continuously tell and advance a story.
Currently, we are fighting a Vex invasion in Season 8. The Vex Offensive in Destiny 2 has recently activated the final assault, but the machine beings have not yet been completely defeated, so there has not been a proper finale: The Vex Offensive disappointed many Guardians recently.
However, the finale is still to come. Bungie has already announced this. It was stated:
“It is still not entirely clear what your victory has caused, but the closer we get to the next season, the more you will learn about how the world evolves as a result.”
If this evolution of the world does not happen before the end of Season 8, this topic will probably be picked up or continued in Season 9 at the latest – at least at the beginning.
In addition, Season 9 is generally expected to be about “fixing the timeline” (Fix the Timeline). This has already been leaked without concrete explanation.
Some therefore assume that in our fight against the Vex, who can move through time, something goes wrong and the Guardians will need to correct it.
Also, the story of Shadowkeep had an open ending and raised more questions than it answered. Thus, Guardians can hopefully look forward to a continuation of this storyline surrounding the mysterious Darkness.
However, the new season is likely to be related to the sun. This is indicated not only by the name and a focus on the solar classes of the Guardians – it is also mentioned in the TWaB from November 21st: “…what awaits you when you worship the sun in the next season.”
These changes are already known: At the beginning of Season 9, a larger update is expected that will bring numerous sandbox adjustments and “Quality of Life” improvements to the game. Extensive changes to the solar focuses of the Guardians as well as some buffs and nerfs to weapons have been presented so far.
