In Destiny 2, you can make your hard-earned titles even rarer starting from Season 13 and show everyone who the hardcore Guardian is. The new system strongly resembles the popular Prestige from Call of Duty.
Here’s how to show off soon: In Destiny 2, you should be able to gild your hard-earned titles starting from Season 13. Then you can “gild” the title (translated roughly means to enhance or beautify) and virtually earn it again. Why all this? Well, to show off and impress other Guardians.
MeinMMO explains the new system and clarifies why Bungie seems to have borrowed this idea from Call of Duty. Here we briefly present the possibilities for showing off in both shooters:
- How titles work in Destiny 2: Titles appear visible next to the player’s name and indicate that this Guardian has mastered an activity. Such name additions are associated with a lot of grind and hard challenges. Only about 1% of all Guardians wear some rare titles (via Warmind.io). There are titles for raids, in PvP, or for the current season. Accordingly, Guardians walk around proudly with them.
- What’s the deal with Prestige in CoD? Particularly dedicated soldiers enter Prestige after reaching max level in the shooter series. They reset their rank and start all over again. With each subsequent reset, they enter a higher Prestige tier, which is then showcased with impressive emblems. In Cold War this occurs seasonally and can go up to 25 times.
In Destiny 2, it is very satisfying to check off all required Triumphs for a title and then finally equip your rare title. To take it a step further, the new gilded title system will come into play starting from February 9, 2021 (the beginning of Season 13).
Gilded titles are meant to create more incentives for hardcore Guardians
Once you have earned a title, you unlock additional, extra difficult challenges associated with that title. If you also fulfill those, the title becomes gilded.
- Then the color of the title above your head changes
- A new symbol shows everyone that you don’t stop at the normal title
- You adorn the title seal with a golden frame
- A counter shows how many times you have gilded a title
- You can gild a title once per season (the tasks vary depending on seasonal events)
At the end of a season, the title is then reset.
If another player sees such a gilded title, it’s immediately clear that you are a dedicated hardcore Guardian who plays Destiny 2 anything but casually. For a casual gamer, a normal title might already be a significant hurdle (whether such a Guardian knows the difference between a title and a gilded title is another question).
These are the titles that start in Season 13:
- Conqueror (Nightfall: Fire Trial)
- Unbroken (Crucible)
- Dredgen (Gambit)
- Flawless (Trials of Osiris)
This is the title problem in core activities
Once you have earned the Conqueror title, you show everyone that you have survived even the toughest fire trials. Wearing the Flawless title proudly, everyone knows that it’s better not to cross paths with you in the Trials.
These titles are associated with a lot of work. However, once obtained, many Guardians lack incentives to spend more time in the activities (aside from the loot). Or they wish for their time to be recognized further. With the gilded system, Guardians should have a goal to strive for even after obtaining the original title and be rewarded each season with a “better” title in their favorite activity.
Especially for Gambit fans, this could elevate the otherwise seen as uncool Dredgen title.
Bungie concludes its preview of the new title system by stating that this is the result of “constructive feedback from players of all kinds from the Destiny community.” They then ask for your opinions on it.
