In Destiny 2, significant changes to Stasis are coming with update 3.2.0.3. Players are slowly getting fed up with the ice abilities that terrorize PvP. MeinMMO has compiled the key changes for you.
What players are complaining about: Stasis is the fourth and newest element in Destiny 2. Since Beyond Light introduced ice powers into the game in November 2020, the Crucible has become a nightmare for many. As much fun as it is to freeze, slow down, and shatter enemies, it is far less enjoyable to be on the receiving end in PvP.
- This is the classic problem of Crowd Control.
- Bungie has previously issued some nerfs to Stasis. However, the balance between light classes and Stasis is not right in the Crucible.
- The new Season 14 has recently introduced new powerful Stasis aspects and fragments, reigniting the discussion.
- The Destiny developer is now responding to the criticism and is releasing extensive changes affecting every Stasis class.
- Some players worry that these changes may affect the fun in PvE. We explain whether the changes explicitly apply to PvP or PvE.
When will the Stasis nerfs come? All the changes discussed here will come with update 3.2.0.3, which is set to release next week on June 3 during reset time (7:00 PM).
Bungie originally planned this patch for Season 15 (at the earliest in August 2021) but moved it up due to numerous complaints about Stasis. The still-unnamed Season 15 will finally bring the promised changes to the old light classes.
Stasis should no longer take you out of the game indefinitely
The hotfix 3.2.0.3 addresses the two most annoying points of criticism regarding Stasis: freezing and slowing. Guardians have been wishing for these changes for a long time.
What happens when you are frozen: The freezing duration is generally reduced to 1.35 seconds. Initially, it was an incredible 5 seconds.
- You can no longer break out of this state, as breaking out would take longer than 1.35 seconds.
- Enemy Supers can still freeze you for longer, but breaking out is still possible in this case.
The extra damage against frozen Guardians in PvP decreases from 50 % to 5 %. This applies to all special weapons, power weapons, and all abilities of light classes. Kinetic weapons, by the way, already deal less damage against Stasis targets.
What about the slowing? Not only being frozen by Stasis was equivalent to a death sentence. The cold slow was often also impossible to counter. The debuff is now weaker:
- The slowing effect on movement speed is now only 20 %.
- After the update, you can still use your class abilities: Hunter dodge or Icarus dash will keep you safe.
- Bungie has already mentioned that the ionic blink of Stormcallers should also count towards this in the future.
If you are slowed, you retain full weapon accuracy. It was extremely annoying to deal with all the negative slow effects while still missing shots. However, slowed players will receive additional flinch. This means: Your weapons will shake more violently when aiming if you are shot at and slowed.
Adjustments to Stasis abilities in hotfix 3.2.0.3
This grenade is being nerfed: Among the Stasis grenades, only the Cold Snap grenade is receiving a direct adjustment, but it’s extensive:
- The ice seekers no longer track enemies after the first freeze (we cannot tell you whether this also applies to fragment abilities).
- The seekers now take 0.8 seconds to search for prey (previously 0.3 seconds).
- The radius of the grenade against enemy Guardians is nerfed from 3 meters to 1.5 meters.
- The Cold Snap grenade will no longer activate on walls; it will fall to the ground and explode there.
For you, all these changes mean that you need to throw much more accurately and rely less on the automatic seeking mechanisms.
Two fragments are receiving an overhaul: Stasis classes can be significantly more individualized than light classes. This is due to the fragments and aspects, which bring new abilities or alter skills. Fragments can be used by Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans – 2 of them are receiving a direct nerf:
- Whispers of Hedrons: No extra weapon damage after freezing an enemy.
- Instead, the stability and aim assist of your weapon increases, and the 3 stats of mobility, regeneration, and resilience of your Guardian increase.
- Whispers of the Dying: No overshield while you are in your Super (what the compensation effect is currently unknown).
On the next and final page, we will cover the specific nerfs for Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks along with their Stasis aspects.
