Today marks the last week of Season 8 in Destiny 2. Now is the time to finally find out if there will be a proper finale for the Season of The Undying. A statement from the developers gives hope.
What’s happening in Destiny 2? Season 8 of Destiny 2 is slowly coming to an end, culminating in today’s weekly reset on December 3rd, leading into its final week. It will end on December 10th, and then the new Season 9 – the Season of Dawn – will begin.
Bungie announced that new seasons will tell a story that will be resolved at the end, and that each season will transition into the next. However, the outgoing season still lacks a proper finale. The story surrounding the Vex is not over yet.
This has left some Guardians disappointed. Some have lost hope that Season 8 will conclude its narrative beyond the final assault of the Vex Offensive before the start of Season 9. However, one statement revives some of that hope.
This raises hopes for a conciliatory ending to Season 8: In comments on Reddit, it didn’t seem like there would be anything after Vex Offensive: Final Assault. Community Manager Cozmo expressed regret that fans are disappointed and has been gathering feedback on how to improve in upcoming seasons.
However, a sentence from the “This Week at Bungie” blog on November 21 gives some Guardians hope for a proper finale for Season 8. It states: “It’s still unclear what your victory has wrought, but as the next season approaches, you will learn more about how the world evolves because of it.”
Even though almost 2 weeks have passed since then, nothing has changed. The world hasn’t really progressed; the Undying Mind is still not finally defeated, and the story around the Vex has not continued.
However, the wording in the TWaB suggests that there will still be further developments within Season 8. Since today is the last week of Season 8, it is Bungie’s last chance to let the Guardians feel the consequences mentioned.
This gives hope that there might be some sort of finale during this final week of Season 8 that will conclude the story surrounding the Vex and the Undying Mind or at least transition into the upcoming Season 9. And perhaps we’ll have more clarity on this after the reset tonight.
Why the “previous” finale was disappointing: In the activity Vex Offensive: Final Assault, Guardians battle the Vex boss Undying Mind. Many Guardians considered this content to be a kind of season finale. After all, it was about facing the main threat from the Season of The Undying and defeating it.
Bungie also created hype around this activity. Everything was building up to the Final Assault and the battle against the Undying Mind concluding the season. However, many were left disappointed.
Neither did the activity itself impress (it was simply a new boss), nor was there any real narrative conclusion for the ongoing season or a bridge to the next Season 9.

Therefore, some players still hope that there will be more than just the “previous” disappointing finale.
