Players have long demanded that the popular Solstice Armor in Destiny 2 finally be made useful again. After the mood on Reddit boiled over again, Bungie has now spoken out.
This armor is the focus: The event-specific Solstice of Heroes armor is popular with many players – at least visually. It looks sleek and also featured exclusive glowing effects last year that made it even more appealing.
This armor can only be earned during the Solstice event. If you had a complete set of the highest quality in 2019, you received the entire set as Armor 2.0 variant with the start of Season 8.
What is the problem with this armor? The problem is: Many have really worked hard to grind this armor. Some have even spent money in the Eververse for the glowing effects.
However, this armor is hardly used at all. In the eyes of most Guardians, it simply isn’t worth it. While it is available with the new Armor 2.0 standard, its rolls and stats are truly bad. And it cannot be used as a universal ornament on other armor pieces.
Many are frustrated by the fact that so much effort and even money was put into acquiring the armor and thus the glowing effects, but they cannot be effectively used. Numerous Guardians feel almost cheated.
In numerous threads, players made Bungie aware of the problem and called for changes. They want a way to either get armor with random rolls and stats or at least to use it as a universal ornament on other armor pieces.
The cool set should finally be useful again, it should be worth it, as many players wish. But Bungie has largely remained silent on this issue, at least so far.
This is what Bungie says: After numerous threads on this issue with some 17,000 upvotes that have remained uncommented by Bungie for weeks and months, recently the mood escalated in a new post on this topic – with more than 13,000 upvotes in just one day.
In that post, the author mocked that Bungie would certainly let the Guardians earn the armor in the desired ornament form again during the Solstice event in 2020 in a charitable manner. Moreover, the studio would act surprised when players get upset that they have to re-earn old rewards that they should have had long ago.
For this, he received a lot of support. Numerous players again called for changes to the Solstice armor. Some had hoped that Bungie would address the problem before the upcoming Solstice event in the summer of 2020. But that seems unlikely.
Unexpectedly, the community manager dmg04 responded in this thread. He assured that the team would continue to observe and process feedback on Solstice armor and corresponding ornaments – specifically from Year 1 and 2. However, there would be no changes regarding this in the next two seasons.
So it really looks like the potential changes might only come (if at all) for the Solstice event in 2020.
This is what the players say: The response caused frustration, anger, and mockery among fans. It is a typical Bungie response, so the general consensus goes. The criticism and feedback are anything but new, with some even stemming from Year 1 of Destiny 2.
What prevents Bungie from unlocking the armor as a universal ornament, which would suffice for most is hardly understandable. There was also a side jab at Bungie’s priorities. Bungie can’t manage to create an armor ornament in six months, yet the Eververse will undoubtedly be overflowing with new items in the next two seasons.
