In Destiny 2, you should think twice about spending money on legendary weapon skins in the cash shop. A new feature will soon drastically limit weapon choices.
So be cautious when purchasing: In the Eververse, Destiny players can acquire various cosmetic modifications. This includes ornaments for weapons (skins). However, the version for legendary weapons will soon face some restrictions that you should consider before making a purchase.
Players are now reporting (via reddit), that they should think twice about purchasing legendary weapon ornaments. The reason is the new infusion and leveling system for equipment. When it comes into effect this autumn, many weapons may be left behind. The purchased ornament would thus not be usable everywhere, making the investment not worth it, according to the Guardians:
I was about to buy it [the ornament], but then I realized that it makes no sense to buy a skin if I can’t use it whenever I want. I mean, why the hell would I spend real money on something I’ll be forced not to use?

Weapon Ornaments in Destiny 2’s Eververse
What are these ornaments? The affected ornaments can currently be purchased by Guardians from Tess in the Eververse. A legendary skin currently costs 400 Silver. This is approximately 4 Euros – if you take the smallest Silver package for €4.99 as a reference.
Exotic ornaments usually cost a bit more but can be added to the cart without hesitation if needed. The controversial weapon changes do not affect Exotics.
The Eververse also offers many of these skins in a rotation for Glimmer, which is the currency earned in-game. However, not all ornaments can be earned this way, or players have to wait weeks for their chosen skin to come around. The visual modification for the powerful new shotgun Felwinter’s Lie, for example, can only be obtained for real money – this particular skin was also the trigger for the widely discussed reddit post.
This is what will happen in the Eververse this autumn: Bungie has already announced some changes for the cash shop and loot in Destiny 2. For example, starting with Season 12 (autumn 2020), there will generally be no legendary weapon ornaments available in the Eververse.
Many of the cosmetic items will also move into the loot pool of activities. Particularly in the endgame, you should be able to earn cool visual modifications through gameplay. There will certainly be skins for legendary weapons in Destiny 2 in the future – but not through cash, but through skill and hard work.
