Currently, many players are working hand in hand in Destiny 2 to solve a massive new riddle. But what reward awaits us at the end? There is no official information, but there are 2 plausible theories. We summarize what the community suspects.
This is the riddle: Recently, a new quest entered the game – the “Exploration of the Corridors of Time”. Since the weekly reset on January 14, it has kept the Destiny community busy.
In this quest, players traverse through the Sundial, a type of time machine, into the eponymous Corridors of Time, where a massive puzzle needs to be solved. However, currently, they are stuck. Nevertheless, many Guardians are working hard to find a solution for the current step. A quick solution is likely not in sight.
At the same time, many are also wondering what awaits the Guardians at the end of this gigantic puzzle. What could be the reward for such an effort?
The 2 Major Theories Surrounding the Reward
Officially, Bungie has not revealed anything about possible rewards yet. But the community has already come up with its own plausible theories about how Destiny 2 might reward Guardians at the end of this quest. Here are the two most common speculations:
Exotic Weapon / Exotic Sword
Some in the community believe that at the end, an exotic weapon for the power slot, likely an exotic sword, could be waiting for us.
On one hand, there is currently an entry in Destiny 2’s data for such an exotic weapon for the heavy weapon slot. However, this is still a secret, so it is not known what it is. It does not count among the previously communicated weapon exotics of Season 9. None of them are classified under the power slot. Moreover, there were leaks suggesting that an exotic sword from Destiny 1 could return.
On the other hand, the time-lost vault is also located in the Corridors of Time – a kind of end room (so far), which Guardians can access by solving the first riddle part. In this room, there is a grave in the middle that cannot be reached yet.
This will likely only be possible later in the puzzle, which numerous Guardians are currently working on.
On the lid of this sarcophagus lies a sword – one that we have not seen in Destiny 2 before.
It resembles more the legendary and exotic swords from Destiny 1 – especially just above the grip.
Warning – Spoiler: According to data mining results, it seems to be our Guardian’s grave, where we meet Saint-14 in a future timeline. The dialogue apparently involves a weapon that was left behind by our (deceased) Guardian – one that once belonged to Saint-14. And swords with this or at least very similar shapes can be found in the Tower hangar with Saint-14.
For some, this is another hint that it could indeed be a sword – namely the one on the grave.
Quest Item for the New Exotic Weapon Bastion
The other theory revolves around the upcoming exotic weapon Bastion. Because it seems that the puzzle quest “Exploration of the Corridors of Time” is connected to the new exotic fusion rifle.
As stated in the quest description for the puzzle quest at the end: “Visit the 14th Saint and bring him what you found in the Corridors of Time. He may know what to do with it.” This will likely be our next quest step after solving the riddle in the Corridors.
At the same time, the Destiny database currently has an exotic item (not yet in the game) called a chronometric weapon core.
Looking at the already leaked quest for the Bastion, one of the steps says: “The light frequency you are looking for not only matches the Sundial, but also the chronometric core you salvaged from the Corridors of Time.”
The chronometric weapon core thus comes from the Corridors of Time, where the Guardians are currently trying to solve the massive puzzle. And what we found in the Corridors of Time, according to the puzzle quest description, we are supposed to deliver to Saint-14.
Moreover, we also receive the Bastion from Saint-14. In the description of the last step, we give him the still non-functional fusion rifle, and he tinkers with it and repairs the damaged connections with the part we had. It is assumed that this component is the chronometric weapon core.
Therefore, some Guardians believe that at the end of the great riddle, an item is waiting for us, which will trigger the quest for the Bastion on January 28. This would also fit Bungie’s statement that there would likely be no quick solution to the riddle – that this is much more of a marathon.
The solution to the riddle: Since January 20, the Guardians no longer need to puzzle. The mega-puzzle is solved. What reward is in store for you can be read here.
However, keep in mind: These are so far merely the most widespread theories, not official statements. So it’s quite possible that something completely different awaits us at the end.
