The 2nd expansion of Destiny 2 revolves around the Warminds and a mysterious woman. Who is she?
The first DLC “Curse of Osiris” is still over a month away, yet the Guardians are already eagerly speculating about the second DLC, which is set to be released in spring 2018.
For months, the community has been sure that this expansion will be about the Warmind Rasputin. This was hinted at by the symbol on the Season Pass graphic:
With the reveal trailer for Curse of Osiris, a new graphic for the two Destiny 2 expansions was released. This time, people are visible: On the left, Osiris is clearly recognizable. Osiris will be the most important new character in the “Curse of Osiris” DLC, which is why he is prominently depicted in this DLC art. In the DLC image next to it, there is also a person who will likely be just as important for the 2nd DLC as Osiris is for the 1st DLC. The question is only: Who is she?
The trail leads through the Warminds to Clovis Bray
The 2nd DLC is about the Warminds, and any Destiny 1 veteran has heard of a Warmind: Rasputin. Rasputin is stationed in the Cosmodrome and is considered the last surviving Warmind.
A Warmind is an artificial intelligence developed during the Golden Age for strategic warfare purposes. It is extremely intelligent and complex and can monitor the entire solar system.
The Collapse could only be survived by Rasputin as the only Warmind – while there are still several Warmind chambers scattered throughout the solar system that are intact and functional, they “are left empty”.
But what do these Warminds have to do with the person in the picture? The Warminds were manufactured during the Golden Age by a powerful and influential company: Clovis Bray. Bray built among other things the Dust Palace on Mars and was responsible for groundbreaking technologies, such as the Engram technology, the Exos, SIVA, and the Warminds.
However, the Golden Age has long since passed, and information about the Bray family is scarce. There is only sparse information that there are still family members: Here comes Ana Bray into play.
Who is Ana Bray?
Taking a closer look at the image for the 2nd DLC, you can see that it is a woman:
The face is not discernible, and her equipment reveals little about the person. There is only one striking symbol: A wolf’s head on her shoulder: Many Guardians were instantly sure: Aha, this must be an Iron Lord! Perhaps Lord Efrideet is returning – a female Iron Lord.
However, that is most likely not the case. Because the Iron Lords have a wolf’s head with a different design as their symbol:
So what is this wolf’s head that the woman is carrying on her shoulder? In fact, there was an item in Destiny 1 that featured this symbol. A Hunter cloak that the Speaker offered: And according to the cloak, this symbol was worn in battle by only one person: By the legendary Hunter Ana Bray. Since this woman on the DLC graphic has this symbol on her shoulder, it is likely that it is Ana Bray.
Ana Bray was only a footnote in the lore of Destiny 1. It is mentioned that she participated in the Battle of Six Fronts. What is exciting is: Ana Bray was – or is – a Guardian!
You should know: A Guardian does not remember their previous life – the life before they were first revived by their Ghost. If Ana Bray is a Guardian, she technically cannot know that she was previously part of the Bray family. Or can she?
In fact, there is a way to become a Guardian without dying and then being found by a Ghost. According to the lore, Shin Malphur is the only known Guardian who received their Ghost from another Guardian. However, this story will not be elaborated on here. It is just to show: It is possible to become a Guardian and still remember your previous name.
This is a possible scenario of how Guardian Ana Bray could have retained her name. Another possibility is: Ana Bray has nothing to do with “Clovis Bray” – she simply adopted this name. We do not know. But given that Ana Bray will play an important role in the 2nd DLC, which will be about the Warminds, it is quite possible that she is in some way related to the Brays who invented the Warminds.
Otherwise, what is known about Ana Bray:
- She is a Gunslinger Hunter.
- According to Lord Shaxx, she was one of the most powerful Guardians ever. She distinguished herself during the Battle of Six Fronts. Wherever she fired her Golden Gun, the ground burned like pure sunlight.
Bottom line: Everything points to Ana Bray being the Guardian in the graphic. Both the wolf’s head symbol and the Warmind setting of the second expansion fit her.
What role Ana Bray will play in Destiny 2 remains exciting. Currently, there are already several hints about her in the game:
- On Io, a Warmind data cube can be scanned, with the info: Someone named Bray has removed the data. Maybe it’s Ana?
- Moreover, she has written a diary that is now – apparently – in the hands of “Daito.” It can be scanned in a secret Daito room.
If the Ghost scans this diary, we find out that the diary belongs to Ana Bray. However, it has been almost completely redacted, pages are missing from the book. The Ghost suspects that something is wrong here.
