In Destiny 2, one of the biggest topics in the community is the discussions about Exotic class items. They are a torment to farm. Bungie knows this, and now they want to address it with upcoming updates, but will it work?
Why is farming a torment? Exotic class items can initially only be obtained in the Exotic mission “Dual Destiny” until their first drop. After that, two options open up for players:
- The continued farming of Dual Destiny
- The monotonous opening of chests in the Shattered Heart
Both options are exhausting and laborious in the long run. Many players have criticized the nature of the grind as well as the lack of protection against duplicates. Guardians farm hour after hour only to receive class items that they already have up to three times in their vault. Fans have therefore demanded changes, which are expected to be implemented in early August.
Active players can look forward to it, macro users probably not
What is supposed to change? Bungie has taken a look at the feedback from the community and decided on various changes intended to make farming Exotic class items easier. You can expect the following:
- Increases the chance of drops when opening momentum chests
- The more chests you open that are linked to momentum activities, the higher your chance of drops will be.
- Chests of higher tiers significantly increase the chance of drops.
- Chances of drops are reduced for chests that are not related to momentum (likely patrol chests)
- This is intended to increase participation in momentum activities.
- The increased drop chances you have gathered through momentum can also be transferred to Lost Sectors and co-op missions.
Will it appease the community? That is difficult to assess. Many have criticized not only the poor drop rates but also the lack of protection against duplicates. This, according to the TWID, is not being addressed or considered.
Players who are just now starting the grind and are interested in momentum will likely look forward to the higher drop chances. However, fans who have been grinding since the release and are now using macros to open chests will be upset. The regular chests will no longer be an option for players who are not interested in Dual Destiny.
For exotic quests, Guardians need to farm a lot of momentum, and the activity is exhausting in the short or long term. Whether this change will also attract players who avoid the Shattered Heart of the Traveler for this reason remains to be seen.
What do you think about the change? Do you believe it will be enough, or does Bungie need to do more to make farming more attractive? Let us know in the comments. You can read more about Destiny here: The future of Destiny 2 can only go in two directions, and one of them you will not like
