Destiny 2 took a long time to accept the path of MMOs. Now the developers are shrouding their game in this veil, but one crucial feature is still missing: open chat. When this will come and why players are skeptical can be found out here.
What has Bungie announced? Bungie wants to change its chat functions with the today’s update “Into the Light”. The developers want players to connect more easily, and to achieve that, you will automatically join chat channels after the update from now on. The voice chat is also affected, but only when you join a fireteam.
Although the change is viewed positively by many fans, some are skeptical. Many see a problem that is also present in Warframe.
Open chat should bring the community together
What plan does Bungie pursue? As mentioned, the developers want to bring players together. Fans will be thrown directly into chat channels to discuss with other Guardians. How this will work and what kind of chat channels they are remains unknown.
A feature like this already exists for comparison in Warframe. When logging in, players can choose between various chat channels to trade, recruit new players into clans, or discuss topics regionally.
On its own, this sounds like a great opportunity to make new friends and gaming partners, but most of the time, only nonsensical stuff is written in the Warframe channels. Discussions about real-world issues that have nothing to do with the game are especially common.
Why are players skeptical? Many players draw the comparison to Warframe. Reddit user 14Xionxiv describes a discussion he recently witnessed in Warframe in one of these chats: “A few weeks ago, I logged into Warframe and just stared at the region chat where they were arguing over who would win in a twerk duel between Obama and Lincoln. I didn’t even play that day. I just watched them argue/debate for 20 minutes…”.
Others fear that racist remarks will be made or that there will even be advertising for real money services like Trials carries. Currently, there is a major problem in Destiny 2 with the mentality of some Guardians, and through these chat options, some fans could emerge with malicious thoughts.
What do you think about the idea of open chat channels? Do you think it’s good, or would you rather pass on it? Let us know in the comments!
