In Destiny 2, Guardians can now take on the Loyalty Quest, where they must choose between the Vanguard and the Drifter. We show you how both quest lines unfold and how your decision impacts the game.
This is the quest: Since the weekly reset on March 12, the Loyalty Quest is live for all owners of the Annual Pass, alongside the Dorn Quest.
Right at the beginning, you will be faced with a tough choice in this quest. You must choose between the Vanguard and the Drifter and then prove your loyalty to the respective side.
With this guide, we aim to explain both quest lines and make your choice a little easier.

The Loyalty Quest in Destiny 2 – What You Need to Know
The requirement for the quest: Some Guardians do not see the quest. Many wonder why. This is because certain requirements must be met for the quest to be offered.
To unlock it, you must complete the introductory quest steps for Gambit Prime and Reckoning – up to the point where you receive the first piece of Tier 1 Prime Armor. Only then will you have the opportunity to decide.

What influence does the choice have? Many Guardians wonder how their choice affects the events in Destiny 2. After all, Bungie hinted that this choice would have consequences and would noticeably impact Season 6.
Currently, however, there isn’t much to see. It is a very story-driven quest that can be experienced from a different perspective depending on your choice and involves different tasks. Among other things, the relationship between the Drifter and the Vanguard is explored.
What will happen next in Season 6 is unknown. However, after completing the quest, aside from a few new dialogue lines, there are no real consequences yet. You are simply experiencing the quest from a different viewpoint.

Additionally, the choice of each side is character-bound and not account-bound. You can easily experience the other quest line with a different character if you don’t want to miss anything.
Will you miss out on special rewards? Many fans had high hopes and expected special rewards at the end of the Loyalty Quest. Some Guardians feared they might miss a cool reward if they chose one side. Which side has the cool rewards? None!
If you are only playing for rewards, you might be disappointed at the end of the quest. Guardians are primarily rewarded with story and lore. At the end of both quest lines, there is a so-called Loyalty Package.

This includes a powerful Gambit or Vanguard item in the form of weapons or armor depending on the side, as well as some materials like upgrade cores or Prime Synths. There are no special or particularly cool rewards. So you shouldn’t base your choice solely on the rewards.
The Vanguard Quest – The Investigation
The individual quest steps are infused with lore; however, we will keep it as brief as possible to avoid spoiling too many story details.

How to get the quest: The quest for the Vanguard begins with the decision at the Drifter. Talk to him in the Tower’s annex and choose the side of the Vanguard. Once that is done, the following steps will guide you through the quest.
Signed, sealed, delivered: You need to find a terminal in the Tower hangar where you can send an encrypted message to Aunor Mahal. Stay to the right as you get into the hangar via the stairs. The terminal is near Cayde’s old location.
A message of solidarity: Now you need to find a member of the Hidden in the Tower hangar to deliver this message. This person stands on the left side near the stairs in the hangar – close to where Dead Orbit used to be.

In the annex, lurking there is a little bug: Here you need to find suitable spots in the Tower annex to place audio monitoring devices to eavesdrop on the Drifter. Go to the entrance of the Drifter’s room and place three bugs there.
Surveillance: Now return to the terminal where you sent your message and activate it to monitor the bugs.
Covert investigation: A lead points to Spider. Visit the Fallen dealer in the Tangled Shore.
A fair price: Spider will cease his dealings with the Drifter – for the right price. Pay him 50,000 Glimmer.
On the trail: The quest continues on Titan. Complete the heroic variant of the adventure Siren’s Song there.

Primary investigations: Submit 50 particles while playing Gambit or Gambit Prime. Caution, this step is currently bugged! The particles will only count for you in the Gambit Prime mode.
Watch out: In this step, you must defeat 25 Guardians in the Crucible.
Field repair: Now return to the terminal in the hangar and review your logs there.
Bomb threat: You must now follow further leads in the activity “Secrets and Potential.” This can be selected and started via the Gambit navigator.
The survival guide: This step leads you to the EDZ on Earth, where you need to search for the Drifter’s tapes.

You will find one tape near computer consoles in the following patrol areas and lost sectors:
- Trostland (area on the map)
- Skydock IV (lost sector)
- Flooded Chasm (lost sector)
- Sojourner Camp (area on the map)
- Excavation Site XII (lost sector)
- Tangled Shore (area on the map)
- Pirate’s Den (lost sector)
You can find a list of all lost sectors here: Lost Sectors – All locations and entrances
Bitter truths: Now visit and confront the Drifter in the Tower. You will receive the reward from Ikora Rey, which, however, is not indicated by a quest marker.
The Drifter – Honor Among Thieves
How to get the quest: The quest line for the Drifter also starts with a personal conversation with him. Talk to him and choose his side.

Then continue with the following steps:
Black market deals: Visit Spider in the Tangled Shore and ask him for the bacon.
Suspicious business: Now Spider shows you a black market goods list where you can find the bacon. Bring enough cash. The necessary bacon will cost you 50,000 Glimmer.
Dead drop: Complete the heroic variant of the adventure Thief of Thieves on Titan to pick up the bacon.
Consultation: Now search for the Drifter in the Tower’s annex.

Show your strength: Here you need to defeat 25 Guardians in the Crucible.
Particles! Quick! Play Gambit or Gambit Prime and submit 50 particles. Note that this step is currently bugged. The particles currently only count for you in the Gambit Prime mode.
Fresh on the plate: Now the Drifter has a classic collecting task for you. Get fuel from Vex strike bosses and meat from Cabal strike bosses.
For Vex, the Strikes Pyramidion and The Corrupted are advisable. For Cabal, you can play the Arms Dealer or The Inverted Spire.

The Drifter’s hideout: Now enter the activity Secrets and Potential via the Gambit navigator. There you need to find the tape that the Drifter has recorded for you.
Cold feet: Now visit the Drifter in the Tower.
Secret messages: Now you need to find the secret messages that the Drifter has left for you.

You will find one tape near computer consoles in the following patrol areas and lost sectors:
- Trostland (area on the map)
- Skydock IV (lost sector)
- Flooded Chasm (lost sector)
- Sojourner Camp (area on the map)
- Excavation Site XII (lost sector)
- Tangled Shore (area on the map)
- Pirate’s Den (lost sector)
You can find a list of all lost sectors here: Lost Sectors – All locations and entrances
We’re in this together now: Visit the Drifter again in the Tower’s annex. The reward is also there.
