This afternoon, on October 20th, maintenance is scheduled for Destiny 2 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia for the new update 2.9.2.2. MeinMMO presents the unusual times that are important today.
Here’s what’s happening today: The Season 11 of Destiny 2 is coming to an end, but maintenance is on the agenda this Tuesday afternoon. The longer maintenance serves to prepare for the new update – the hotfix 2.9.2.2.
The update is now live on all platforms. On PS4, it is only 1.37 MB, and you just need to start the game; it will load shortly before login.
Maintenance on 20.10. – All about the process and server downtime
Here are the important times:
- At 2:00 PM, maintenance starts on all platforms
- At 2:45 PM, the servers will go offline, and downtime begins. If you are still in an activity, you will be kicked and cannot log in again.
- At 7:00 PM, the servers will come back online. Update 2.9.2.2 will then roll out worldwide
- Once the update is downloaded (and copied), you can play Destiny 2 again.
- At 8:00 PM, maintenance is scheduled to end
The maintenance also applies to the Destiny 1 servers.
Keep in mind: Until the maintenance is completely finished, there may be queues when logging in or connection issues. As always, third-party applications and the official companion app will also be unreachable.
What changes with update 2.9.2.2 in Destiny 2?
This is included in the hotfix: The details about what changes to the game are being made are not known. Usually, Bungie’s TWaB provides an outlook on upcoming changes. However, this update was not mentioned.
Since the downtime for a hotfix is exceptionally long, some guardians speculate about larger changes:
- A potential candidate could be the suspected live event that is supposed to link Season 11 and Beyond Light story-wise: Looks like Destiny 2 will end Season 11 with a big event
- However, according to some players (via reddit), the previous live event with the Allmacht came into the game without a patch or maintenance
- Other voices advocate for a finale at the Interference mission – even though we have been able to play the fight against Nokris for 2 weeks. Could more come?
- Since the servers for Destiny 1 are also being maintained, it could involve the implementation of some sort of promotion for Beyond Light.
Will there be a fix for the Halloween event? Although recently the drop rate for the event item “Cipher Decoder” was increased, many guardians still report problems with drops. Bungie might be working on it.
However, we know that these issues with the Halloween event are known to the Destiny developer:
- The “Rampant Enthusiasm Emote” is missing its initial sound effect.
- At the end of the Spookwood, equipment with 750 power can sometimes come from chests.
- The Canis Luna Hunter chest armor ornament overlaps with certain gauntlets.
However, it is not yet known whether anything will actually be fixed or something completely different.

What about the patch notes for update 2.9.2.2 in Destiny 2?
This is what the patch notes say: A list of all changes from hotfix 2.9.2.2 can be found in the official patch notes. A look inside shows that despite the long maintenance, only minimal fixes were made.
Here we have linked the English change log – as the German version is not yet available:
