This evening, on September 22, maintenance work will be carried out in Destiny 2 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia for the new update 2.9.2.1. We summarize all information on the important times, the server downtime, and the patch notes.
What is happening today: In Season 11 of Destiny 2 a new update is on the agenda this Tuesday evening: the hotfix 2.9.2.1. This comes with several hours of maintenance work and a short server downtime.
Update 19:20: Bungie just reported via Twitter that the expected maintenance has been extended by an hour. Additionally, you should only be able to log in at 8 PM German time.
The update is now live on all platforms. The hotfix has the version number 1.59 on PS4 and is only 153 MB in size.
With the subsequent weekly reset, a special quest in honor of a deceased developer will go live. Furthermore, a new chapter of friendship between Microsoft and Bungie begins.
Maintenance on 22.09. – Everything about the process and server downtime
Here are the important times:
- Maintenance work will start at 5 PM on all platforms
- At 5:45 PM the servers will go offline and the downtime will begin. If you are still in an activity, you will be kicked and unable to log in again.
- At 7 PM the servers will go back online. Update 2.9.2.1 will then be rolled out worldwide
- Once you have downloaded (and copied) the new update, you can start playing Destiny 2 again.
- At 9 PM the maintenance work is expected to end – this has pushed the anticipated end back by an hour.
Important: Even after loading the update, there may be login issues or queues – until the maintenance is fully completed. During the maintenance, apps and third-party services related to Destiny 2 will only be partially available or may not work at all.
Bungie also announced that Xbox players may not see their purchases (DLCs, etc.) until the hotfix is fully deployed.
Update 2.9.2.1 makes Destiny 2 available in Xbox Game Pass
What’s in the hotfix: After today’s update, Destiny 2 will be fully available in Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. Recently, there were even rumors that Microsoft wanted to buy Destiny 2 along with the studio – but Bungie refuted this.
With this, you can enjoy all the content of the free version of Destiny 2 as well as all paid content. This includes the expansions:
Starting November 10, full access to Beyond Light will also be included.

This is what the patch notes say: Whether today’s hotfix 2.9.2.1 includes more than the unlocking of Destiny 2 in Xbox Game Pass, we will only know once the patch notes are released. Bungie will then list all the changes.
