Today, there are maintenance works for Destiny 2 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. The new update 2.8.1 / 1.49 is now live and brings the Guardian Games among other things. Read here everything important about the maintenance process, the server downtime, and the patch notes.
What to expect today in Destiny 2: This evening, the new spring event – the Guardian Games – will kick off in Destiny 2. Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans will then compete in a kind of Olympic challenge to determine which Guardian class is the most devoted and superior to the others.

But before you can dive into the new content, there will be maintenance and a new update that you need to download – update 2.8.1. Only then will the Guardian Games even come into play.
The update is now live and can be downloaded. On the PS4, it carries the version number 1.49 and is 792.2 MB in size.
This is how the maintenance will proceed today
These are the important times: The maintenance will take several hours and there will be server downtime. So you will have to take a forced break this evening – if only for a (hopefully) short time.
Here is the official schedule for today’s maintenance:
- The maintenance work is scheduled to start at 18:00 German time
- Some API features will also not be available for the time being
- Downtime begins at 18:45, the Destiny 2 servers will go offline
- At 19:00, server downtime ends, and the servers come back online. Then, on all platforms and in all regions, the release of update 2.8.1 also begins
- From 19:00, it will also be possible to log into Destiny 2 again
- The maintenance is expected to end at 20:00
Keep in mind: There may be queues and login issues until the maintenance ends at 20:00.
What changes with Destiny 2 update 2.8.1 / 1.49?
Bungie has already communicated some content that will come to the game with today’s update 2.8.1:
- With the new update, the spring event “Guardian Games” will start
- “Grandmaster” – the ultimate difficulty for Nightfall: The Hollowed will be introduced
With the Guardian Games, a new exotic is also supposed to become available – the Machine Gun Succession. However, it is not yet known whether it will launch today.
Additionally, the developers have already introduced some changes that are expected to be implemented in Destiny 2 today:
- The annoying “Blacked out” problem while playing with friends should finally be fixed. Some friends are blacked out and displayed with a power level of 0. Playing together is currently not always possible because of this.
- “Dusk’s Protection” should now properly generate Orbs of Light.
- A complete upgrade of any bunker unlocks the associated “Warmind Security” triumph.
- Interacting with the statue of Sjur Eido for the “Wishender” quest should not result in crashes.
- The Level 32 LAS upgrade can now be used by any character to clear the bunker.
- Rasputin’s daily Seraph weapon can now be obtained by any character.
- Once you have completed the Forsaken campaign, the lore book entry “The Outlawed Borderland” will be completed and available for collection.
A complete list of all changes will be available with the patch notes for update 2.8.1.
