In Destiny 2 new updates usually arrive on Tuesdays. However, today, Thursday, March 19th, the hotfix 2.8.0.1 was deployed on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. Here you can find all the important information about the unexpected maintenance, the server downtime, and the patch notes.
An update on Thursday? Yes, even though updates for Destiny 2 normally release on Tuesdays, there was a new patch today – the hotfix 2.8.0.1. As part of the new update, unexpected maintenance took place for Destiny 2 today – including a brief downtime.
Now the patch is here. The hotfix will be automatically downloaded in-game after logging in. On the PS4, the update is 10.36 MB in size. Once you have completed that, you can start playing again. The servers are back online after the maintenance.
All details about the maintenance schedule on March 19
Here are the important timings for today:
- The maintenance begins at 5:00 PM (CET)
- At 5:45 PM the servers will go offline. The downtime begins
- At 6:00 PM the Destiny 2 servers are expected to come back online. This is when the release of update 2.8.0.1 starts
- At 7:00 PM the maintenance work is expected to end.
Please note: Until the maintenance is complete, there may be queues and login issues.
What changes with hotfix 2.8.0.1 today?
What is the hotfix about? According to Bungie, today’s hotfix deactivates the additional artifact power in the Trials of Osiris and in the Iron Banner. The studio announced this on Twitter yesterday.
It is currently unknown if anything else will change with the hotfix. A complete overview of all adjustments will, however, be provided tonight in the form of the official patch notes.
What was the issue with artifact power? Many players viewed the bonus power levels earned through the artifact as a problem and called for their deactivation. This is because in the Trials (and also in the Iron Banner), power level advantages are active. However, with the artifact bonus, there was essentially no cap, allowing players with a lot of time to become too powerful too quickly. Many feared this would make the Trials unplayable in no time.
By the way, the artifact mods will remain active. Only the additional power levels will be disabled.
