In Destiny 2, a clip is currently causing a lot of laughter. A surprised unlucky player is being celebrated by the community and soon probably also by Bungie.
This is the clip we’re talking about: The relatively small content creator TheCDJohnson wanted to have some fun in PvP. Just as he activates his Super, he becomes one of the biggest unlucky players in Destiny 2.
In just a few moments, he dies three times from the same enemy attack and couldn’t have done anything differently. What happened to him is captured in a 10-second clip. The video is currently making waves in the community, and even some big names and a community manager are laughing along.
His misfortune could turn into one of his greatest victories in Destiny. Check out the short clip here:
Accidents & Coincidences Bring Thousands of Destiny Players to Laughter
This is what happened: TheCDJohnson is playing in the Crucible’s Menagerie playlist, where chaotic battles are standard due to significantly faster ability recharge. Just as he activates his Golden Gun, a Warlock crosses his path and throws a Nova Bomb at him.
Although the Golden Gun hits the Warlock and also strikes the Nova, the explosion takes the Hunter to his death. Less than 5 steps away from the situation, TheCDJohnson spawns immediately and dies again from the Nova. The next spawn kindly places him a few meters further away in the game – but the Nova strikes a third time hard and mercilessly.
The result: 3 deaths in about 5 seconds, and the Hunter could have done nothing to prevent even one of the deaths. But at least he took his tormentor with him to the grave.
How is that even possible? As the Hunter shoots down the Warlock and his Nova, he has to experience some of the peculiarities of the enemy subclass firsthand: The Warlock was playing the top Voidwalker. This subclass has a strong, slow but homing Nova Bomb.
When the Hunter shoots the bomb, it detonates and causes kill number 1. The Void super was already on the scent and set out to avenge the master after his death. When this Nova explodes, a handful of mini-bombs appear – which are also homing.
Due to the unfortunate spawns that occur in the Menagerie promptly and without a timer, the projectiles dive towards the only living target nearby (Kill 2). One of the mini-Novas flies around erratically but is triggered by the helpless Hunter’s respawn – the inevitable kill number 3 happens.
This is how the community reacts
This is what the viewers say: When TheCDJohnson posted his clip online via Twitter on May 10, he likely did not expect the reactions that his misfortune would provoke in the community.
By now (May 12 – 9:30 AM), the video has over 8,100 likes, almost 2,000 retweets, and numerous comments from amused Guardians:
- MagickUnicorn writes: “Best Destiny clip I’ve seen in a long time.”
- Some users joke about the hopeless situation. Ascendat Nomand (PvP Pro) says, “Just git gud,” meaning: just get better.
- Even big Destiny names like Falloutplays notice the video and share the funny clip.
- Bungie’s community manager dmg04 simply states “wrecked.”
The creator is overwhelmed by the reactions and uses his spotlight to call on viewers to be “Excellent” to each other. The words are a clear reference to the Bungie icon Deej, who always encourages Guardians to be kind to each other with these words:
Chances for Video of the Week? Many viewers urge the unlucky player to submit the video for Destiny’s Video of the Week. Said and done – the clip could now officially be crowned by Bungie, bringing TheCDJohnson one of the rarest emblems in the game. Currently, the post titled “Nerf Warlocks” is even leading and has a real chance of winning.
