The Prometheus Lens in Destiny 2 currently dominates PvP at will. Bungie is reacting, but it will take some time.
Since the launch of Curse of Osiris, it has been causing a stir in the Crucible: The Prometheus Lens.
It is an exotic fusion rifle that fires a deadly laser beam. This currently eliminates enemy Guardians in PvP in the blink of an eye. Once caught in the laser, there is no chance. The Prometheus Lens is overpowered and turns the PvP meta upside down. We have already looked into it.
This overpowered weapon is now personally called out by Jon Weisnewski.
Prometheus Lens will be fixed no earlier than next week
Weisnewski is a Senior Game Designer at Bungie and is responsible for weapons. He addresses the Guardians directly and writes that Bungie is aware of the Prometheus Lens. It is currently not behaving as intended.
A few days ago, Community Manager DeeJ tweeted that there is a bug with this Exotic making it too strong in PvP.
And Weisnewski now shares: They intend to fix the bug with the upcoming update 1.1.1. This is set to release on December 12 and will deliver alongside the bug fix some of the system changes that Bungie promised for December.
However, the goal is only to fix the Prometheus Lens with 1.1.1. This is the earliest date.
Weisnewski asks that you do not go too hard on the players who still do not have a Prometheus Lens until then. But he knows that probably no one will heed this request.
What about the Trials of the Nine?
Many players assumed that the Prometheus Lens was so “broken” that the Trials of the Nine would be canceled this weekend.
- That is not the case. The PvP event will take place as usual. It starts at 6 PM, and we will report on it.

Otherwise, Weisnewski speaks generally about the sandbox in Destiny 2 and about weapon balance adjustments. Before each change, they first read the raw player feedback, analyze player data, bring their own experiences into play, and then conduct tests.
Regarding DPS output, the data from the first months showed that the various weapons are quite solidly balanced. They understood the player feedback that the currently strongest weapons need to be balanced a little better, but without making them too weak or altering their identity. They agree with that.
With update 1.1.0 this week, they approached the weapons calculatedly and cautiously. The main focus was on bug fixes, minor adjustments, and a few specific changes. In the future, Bungie will continue to work on the weapons.
