Recently, an item has appeared in the database of Destiny 2 that has given some fans hope for the return of the Gjallarhorn. However, the whole affair seems to be just a joke from Bungie.
That’s why there were hopes for the return of the Gjallarhorn: Clever Guardians discovered a few days ago in the data of Destiny 2 the item “Midnight Special”. What sounded quite unspectacular at first quickly sparked debates among fans.

For on the item’s icon, the Gjallarhorn, once the most powerful and probably the most famous weapon from Destiny 1, was clearly visible . Also, the item description alluded to this exotic rocket launcher: “an impressive (though non-functional) copy of a famous weapon”.
Some Guardians thus hoped that this item might possibly embody the beginning of a new exotic quest. After all, it wouldn’t be the first iconic weapon from Destiny 1 to make its way to Destiny 2.
Fans eagerly speculated about when and if this item would actually come into the game.

Here’s how to find the item: Since the weekly reset on March 12, the item has indeed been in the game. As part of the Loyalty Quest, the Wanderer sends you to Spider in the Tangled Shore to fetch some Bacon – provided you side with him.
But Spider has much more to offer than just Bacon. The Fallen trader presents you with a whole range of black market goods – including the aforementioned Gjallarhorn item “Midnight Special”.
This is how Bungie troll the Guardians: Apart from the Bacon, the range of goods is likely only there to thoroughly mock the Guardians.

For a large part of the items have either completely outrageous and unrealistic prices or embody materials that no longer exist. Numerous references to Destiny 1 and the early days of Destiny 2 can be found within.
Nevertheless, it remains exciting to see whether anything will progress with the Midnight Special once you have gathered the 20 exotic engrams, or if Bungie will indeed leave it at a joke. Some Guardians may now be disappointed, but they still hold onto the hope that the once most powerful weapon will still find its way to Destiny 2.
Do you also think that Bungie is just playing with the fans’ feelings and has just trolled them? Or do you think there could be more behind it?
Among other things, there are:
- a Ghost for 999,999 Glimmer, which sits in a cage and wants to be released. Spider particularly enjoys devouring these Ghosts.
- The fake Gjallarhorn, which costs 20 exotic engrams.
- A seed ghost, the origin of a War Ghost for a proud 5 Seeds of Light.
- A map with coordinates beyond our solar system, which must be paid for with 5 Hermion Bloom Fossils.
- The key to the personal quarters of Executor Hideo for 500 Dark Fragments.
- A Hadium Flake, a material from Destiny 1 that does not exist in the second part at all.

As most items are not really intended for actual purchase, it is evidently a gag from Bungie, with which they simply wanted to troll the fans and play with their feelings and hopes. The Gjallarhorn will probably not return, as some Guardians hoped – at least not for now.
