In the MMO shooter Destiny 2, the Trials of the Nine start today, on September 29th. Which map will be played, what is the mode?
It didn’t really go smoothly during the Trials of the Nine:
- In the first Trials week , no one really knew if you had to buy a ticket for the Trials somewhere, what the access requirements were, and where you actually start the event. The first Trials of the Nine were chaotic.
- In the second Trials week, there was a significant bug, causing Bungie to change the mode and map.
Today, on September 29th at 7 PM, the third Trials in the history of Destiny 2 start. The planned mode is Countdown and the map is Emperor’s Respite. We will update the article promptly should there be any changes to the plan. The trials will last until the next weekly reset.
What are the Trials of the Nine with the Countdown mode?
This time you fight in the Trials in the “Countdown” mode. This is a round-based and objective-based PvP mode.
You compete against each other in teams of four, with each round switching the offensive and defensive roles between the teams:
- If you are the offensive team, you must plant a bomb at one of two possible locations and defend it until it detonates.
- If you are the defensive team, you must prevent a bomb from being planted, or defuse the bomb in time.
The team that successfully executes its role wins a round. You can also win a round by completely defeating the opposing team. A limited number of revives by team members are available. The team that first wins 6 rounds wins the match.
After each match, you receive “Trials of the Nine” tokens, which you can exchange with the vendor for Trials engrams. Additionally, you receive bonus rewards starting at 3, 5, and 7 match wins. If you achieve a flawless run (7 wins without a loss), you can collect an extra reward. If you have 3 match losses on your ticket, you have to start over.
In the Trials of the Nine, there is no matchmaking. You must assemble your team of 4 players yourself. Moreover, it is a “locked-loadout playlist.” This means you cannot change your weapons and armor pieces until you leave the playlist.
