In Destiny 2 the reveal trailer contains more hints than one might think at first glance. Is Queen Mara Sov returning?
The reveal trailer for Destiny 2 has likely been watched multiple times by numerous Destiny fans. Zavala’s epic speech and Cayde’s “go for it” mentality ignited the hype for the sequel. However, you will still have to wait until September 8th. That is when the global release is.
This trailer contains some details that can be overlooked even after multiple views. There are plenty of clues about the Queen of the Reef: Mara Sov.
Mara Sov – Is the Queen dead or not?
Mara Sov is the Queen of the Reef and the Queen of the Awoken. In Destiny 1, she appeared several times in cutscenes, such as in the spectacular intro cinematic of The Taken King. In that scene, she faces Oryx and is devastated. Many Guardians are convinced since then: The Queen could not have survived this attack!
However, there are also hints that Mara Sov is still alive. On the one hand, she herself is the narrator of this cutscene in which she possibly died. On the other hand, the rule in games, just like in Hollywood films, is: As long as you don’t see a body, no one is dead. Additionally, in a Bungie livestream a year ago, it was stated that the Queen will still play a significant role. However, it is unclear whether this statement is still current.
Bungie’s last statement regarding Queen Mara Sov was in August 2016. During an interview about Rise of Iron, the developers were asked several questions about the lore and story of Destiny. Bungie said one should not rule out the possibility that the Queen is still alive. Shortly before, they remarked that we still had no idea of the true power of the Cabal.
Destiny 2 – The Return of the Queen?
In the “Destiny 2” trailer, the Queen’s logo can now be seen in several shots. This logo looks like – typically with spikes interlocking: Many warriors gathering around Zavala and Cayde-6 wear this logo on their armor, such as in these scenes. However, there are many more of these logos in the trailer:
It is unclear why so many characters wear this logo. In fact, most of the Queen’s warriors fell in battle against Oryx. Now there is speculation in the forums whether this could be a hint that the Queen will return and take on an important role in Destiny 2. The future will tell.
Lord Shaxx in the trailer – also Xur?
If you are a fan of the Crucible and Lord Shaxx, you can breathe a sigh of relief. He definitely survived the Cabal’s attack – he can clearly be seen in the trailer, albeit only in the background. In these two shots, you can spot him:
In the second image, some users believe they have recognized Xur: This character stands directly next to Lord Shaxx and is dressed entirely in black:
However, it is highly likely that this is not Xur, but merely a Hunter in black armor. Such characters with hoods and black outfits are often seen in the trailer.
The fact that Lord Shaxx is in Destiny 2 was already suggested by a leak regarding the sequel. A “Mega Bloks” set describes Lord Shaxx as he fights the Cabal with his Annihilator.
