In Destiny 2, the spring event is over, and the Titans have claimed Guardian Games for themselves. The prize is now here. But instead of immortalizing the winning class, the ultimate reward for the Guardian Games disappoints.
What were the Guardian Games all about? In 2020, Destiny 2 had a spring event, but it was very different from the previous year.
In the so-called Guardian Games, a kind of Olympic competition, Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks competed against each other. This was meant to determine once and for all who among them was the most dedicated Guardian representative and superior to the other classes.
With the Weekly Reset on May 12, the spring event has now come to an end and has a winner. The Titans have secured first place.
First place should be honored especially: The event-specific class items were colored according to the final placement of each class in bronze, silver, and gold – for the rest of the year.
On the other hand, the winner was also to be honored with a commemorative statue and immortalized in the Tower. The winners were supposed to have something to show off.
Now the reward is here, and many players certainly had a different expectation:
This is the reward for the event winners: The statue is now here, and many a Guardian considers it a joke. Those who don’t regularly visit Zavala in the Tower won’t even notice it’s there. If someone doesn’t know it’s there, they would have to search for quite a while.
And once you’ve spotted it, you quickly realize: It’s a small statue carelessly placed in the corner, resembling an unwanted souvenir that one keeps out of politeness rather than a monument for the officially most dedicated Guardian class of Destiny 2. Even the class items of the event are more impressive. The event’s venue was far more spectacularly set up.
The event itself was already met with little enthusiasm, and many were more relieved than sad when the “Bounty Simulator” finally ended. The reward may put the final crown on the experience for many – nearly everyone I spoke to was disappointed, shook their heads with laughter, or showed no interest anymore.
In short: Many expected the reward for the winner of Guardian Olympics to be quite different.
Many Guardians also considered this a joke: What was also met with little enthusiasm this week was the new quest “The Lie”. This went live surprisingly after the Guardian Games ended with the reset, but quickly caused frustration and lack of motivation.
For the first step of the quest, the community must achieve millions of completions in the not particularly popular Seraph Tower activity. And hardly anyone was willing to do that. After the Guardian Games, many did not want to engage in more mindless grinding.
And this became quite noticeable. After a day, hardly any progress was made. At this pace, the step would have only been completed by the end of the season if lucky. Fortunately, Bungie did not overlook this – the developers made some adjustments – the quest was made 10x easier.
What do you think of the winner statue of the Guardian Games? And what do you say about the new quest?
