In the online shooter Destiny 2 there was a conflict in June 2022 between Bungie developer Kevin Yanes and the “Titan” class. The situation has now taken a surprising turn, as it turned out that Titan players had originally misunderstood him.
What did Titans want? Some players of the “Titan” class in Destiny 2 wished for the return of the exotic armor “Dämmerbruch Garnison” from Destiny 1. This item gave Titans an “Air-Dodge”: they could dodge in mid-air.
This is how Yanes reacted: Kevin Yanes is the Combat Design Lead of Destiny 2: he is responsible for such matters.
He told fans on June 2: The “Air Dodge” is reserved for the Warlock in Destiny 2. Titans will never get this ability back. He wanted to clarify that to put this matter to rest.

Some Titans completely lose it, even send death threats
This is how some fans reacted: This statement apparently triggered a total malfunction in the minds of some players.
They felt that their class, the Titan, remained immobile while the other classes had cool dodging maneuvers.
People insulted Yanes, claiming he favored the other classes because he plays them himself. Yanes was said to be completely biased. Insults were exchanged, and some even threatened the man with death.
This is how Yanes reacted: He said, in essence: “Guys, some think I said Titans will never get a movement ability again. I chose my words carefully.”
But the hate had grown so much that he withdrew from Twitter for a while. And even when he returned to Twitter, he did not speak about Destiny 2 anymore.
That was generally a time when Bungie limited communication about Destiny 2 because some fans completely escalated.
Titans now do get a dodge – on the ground
This has now changed: On August 17, Bungie presented Arc 3.0, a major overhaul of the Arc skill tree for every class.
In the Arc tree, there is now an interesting new ability for Titans: The Arc Titan receives the new class ability “Boost”: With a double-click – while on the ground – the Titan rushes off at high speed and performs a quick dodging maneuver from the first-person perspective, comparable to that of a Hunter.
The idea is this: Titans may not get the familiar Air-Dodge back, but they do receive a comparable ground dodge.
Yanes wanted to give us a tip – and for that, they wanted to kill him
This is now the realization: In the reddit forum, one understands what Yanes actually wanted to say months ago (via reddit):
- Titans do not get their “Air-Dodge” back – the emphasis was on “In the air”.
- However, they do get a “Ground-Dodge”.
What Titans were extremely upset about, that they had no movement ability, was actually not the case. Yanes must have known back then what changes were coming soon.
This is how Yanes reacted publicly: When the first news about Arc 3.0 was published on Bungie.net, he posted a meme featuring the creator of Smash Bros., Masahiro Sakurai, saying, “Never ask me about anything again.”
How do the players react? The most important comment on reddit on the subject is: “Kevin Yanes tried to point that out,” with the response, “And people want to kill him for it.”
However, it must be seen as a whole that many players of Destiny 2 distanced themselves from the exaggeratedly angry actions against Yanes and wanted nothing to do with it.
On reddit – and also in the comments of MeinMMO – many players condemn the harassment of developers and flatly reject it.
