In Destiny 2 is the raid “The Vault of Glass” back, the original raid from 2014. At the end of the raid awaits the final boss Atheon: he is actually intended for 6 players. But one Guardian wanted to kill him solo at all costs. The solo kill cost a lot of time and apparently also quite a bit of mental health.
Why is it actually not possible? The fight against Atheon actually requires two teams, because it is necessary to fight the battle in different phases and rooms:
- In the main room, one team must see and report which oracles need to be destroyed
- In a side room, a second team must then actually destroy the oracles
A mix of glitch, skill, and a hell of a lot of stamina
How did the player manage that anyway? The player “VoteforShifu” teleported back and forth between the rooms by using one of the many glitches in Destiny. The glitch has been known for years and is related to the animation of a finisher, with which you can finish off injured enemies.
As the YouTuber explains, he used an exotic grenade launcher (Witherhoard) for the return trip to kill the gatekeeper and switch rooms with precise timing. He then switches to the oracles with the exotic – to the hard-hitting hand cannon Eriana’s Vow.
The timing with the method is extremely tricky, so the player needed over 1,600 attempts for the solo kill on Atheon. For his kill, VoteforShif utilized a Titan with highly optimized skills, allowing him to throw grenades with 380,000 damage points to deal 2.6 million damage points per round. At least in theory.
The player says according to his count: It took him over 100 hours, 6000 shards, 1,000 attempts and “a month of my time”.
The site PCGamer even says, according to DestinyTracker, the player needed 1,600 attempts.
What makes the kill so special? The player uploaded a YouTube video. In the last minute, you can hear the redemption in the voice of VoteforShifu as Atheon dies.
He can hardly believe his luck, his voice breaks, he even seems slightly insane as the boss finally dies.
No doubt: The solo kill on Atheon not only cost an insane amount of time but also quite a bit of nerves.
How do you find the achievement of the Guardian? Does it remind you of the old Crota solo runs from Destiny 1? Let us know in the comments.
