In Destiny 2, the goal is to achieve a score of over 60,000 in the new Nightfall strike. Here are tips on how to do it.
With update 1.1.3, the Nightfall in Destiny 2 has been fundamentally revised. Instead of a time limit and random modifiers, there are now strike scoring, prestige challenge cards, and special Nightfall emblems.
If you achieve certain score milestones, you will unlock badge variants, an aura, and a Vanguard token bonus. An important target value here is 60,000, which will be displayed on the badge. This activates the Nightfall aura and the token bonus:
Keep in mind that this target value of 60,000 has initially been set by Bungie, but could vary in the future. It is intended to be a global threshold that can be adjusted based on community scores.
How do you earn points in Nightfall scoring?
Regarding point gains, you need to know:
- You earn points by getting kills.
- You earn points by generating orbs of light.
- The scoring is team-based and represents the sum of your individual performances. You should work together to increase your total score and not be upset if someone steals your kill.
- There is a permanent point decay – the score “bleeds”.
- After 15 minutes, you will only receive 50% of the point gains. After 18 minutes, you will no longer receive new points.
- In the prestige Nightfall, you can use score modifiers (with the challenge card) to increase point gains.
Tips to boost your score
For many fireteams, it is a major challenge to exceed the threshold of 60,000. In the reddit forum, the user Bartman1919 provides tips on how to achieve this goal most easily. We complement his tips with additional advice.
Requirements for the tips:
- You must be at Power Level 335.
- You need to have a challenge card and play the prestige version of the Nightfall with it. You will receive the card after you have mastered the first Nightfall.
How to easily reach 60,000 points
- Play the prestige Nightfall in a fireteam of three Guardians. The score reflects the sum of your performances, so three Guardians have a significantly easier time than one Guardian.
- Don’t dawdle, but take down the enemies quickly. Remember the point decay!
- If you are Power Level 335, a handicap of 14 on the challenge card should be the best. Because up to this value, the score modifier is quite high, but the damage reduction on the enemy is still manageable. Because from handicap 15 onwards, a red symbol will appear next to the health bars of the enemies, indicating that they are overpowered:
For explanation: The handicap on the card can be set between 0 and 40. At 40, the enemies are 40 power levels above you. The higher the handicap, the higher the score modifier. At the recommended 14, the modifier should be at x2.35.
- Also, take a Hunter with Orpheus Rig with you – orbs of light give you valuable points.
- With elemental modifiers on the card, damage dealt and received is increased by +25%. Bring appropriate weapons to defeat enemies faster.
- In the current Nightfall, which has been active since February 27th, the Void damage modifier is recommended as only a few enemies use Void. Therefore, it would be best to take Void weapons and Void focuses, such as the Nightstalker or the Voidwalker Warlock with Devour.
Keep in mind that a handicap of 14 is not a prerequisite for 60,000 points. This value is merely meant to help fireteams that struggle with the 60,000 hurdle. Some users report that they managed to accumulate enough points with a handicap of 10 and even 7, but you will need to play extremely quickly and coordinated for that.
With the maximum handicap, scores beyond 100,000 are possible, as you can see in this video – however, this is likely only achievable by very few fireteams:
