After the reveal of the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2, Bungie clarified again in the TWaB from June 7 regarding the content players can expect in Year 2 if they do not purchase the big fall addon. You will also get this without Forsaken.
After Bungie recently revealed Destiny 2: Forsaken and presented an updated roadmap with detailed plans through September 2018, many fans still had unanswered questions regarding the upcoming content and features. Many Guardians were unsure what to expect in Year 2 if they do not buy the fall addon.
In the “This Week at Bungie” blog (TWaB) from June 8, 2018, Game Director Chris Barrett spoke and clearly explained which content fans can expect in Year 2 if they skip purchasing the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2.
What all players get in Year 2 – Even without the Forsaken expansion

Even without the upcoming Forsaken addon, players will receive a lot during the second year of Destiny 2. Initially, all features listed on the current roadmap will be available to all fans – regardless of whether they own the Forsaken expansion or not.
Alongside the last changes for Year 1 in June 2018, which will also be available to all players as part of update 1.2.3, all Guardians can look forward to numerous new features after the release of Destiny 2: Forsaken and the start of Year 2.
All of this is available without Forsaken:
- Gear collections
- In-game triumphs
- Changes to weapon slots
- Random rolls for weapons
- Update to the mod system
- Mass deletion of shaders
- A new Crucible mode
- Four new Crucible maps
- 200 additional vault spaces (making a total of 500)
- New bounties
- In-game lore
- Power level advantages are active in Iron Banner and Trials of the Nine.
Interesting: However, there is currently discussion about whether this point suggests that the new level caps will be reachable without Forsaken. It may also indicate that players should consider purchasing the expansion if they want to tackle these activities, as power level will soon be relevant in these activities. Because new levels and power are explicitly listed as features in Forsaken.

Forsaken content and Annual Pass content only for buyers
The content of the Forsaken expansion and the Annual Pass content are explicitly reserved for buyers.
Forsaken owners will receive additionally from September 4:
- New story with a dark atmosphere
- New location: The Tangled Shore
- New end-game location: The Dreaming City
- New (power) level cap
- New subclasses and supers
- New PvEvP mode: Gambit
- New raid in the Dreaming City
- New rewards
- New legendary and exotic gear
- New triumphs
- New lore

Furthermore, hardcore players with the Annual Pass are expected to receive even more opportunities to face enemies, collect loot, and customize their characters.
Buyers of the Annual Pass will receive in addition to the other content:
- Three premium content releases: The premium DLCs Black Armory, Joker’s Wild, and Penumbra are expected to be released in winter 2018, spring 2019, and summer 2019 (by August 31, 2019).
- More end-game challenges
- New weapons, armors, and unique cosmetic rewards
- New and returning exotics
- New pinnacle activities
- More raid layers
- New triumphs
- New lore
What do you think about this? Will players who skip the Forsaken expansion be treated fairly?
