In just a few days, the Warmind expansion for Destiny 2 will be released. As part of this, a number of revamped exotic weapons will be introduced to the game. Ahead of the 2nd DLC, Bungie is showcasing some more overhauled examples in action.
Only a few exotic weapons have really lived up to their reputation in Destiny 2 so far. Many even perform worse than their legendary counterparts and are hardly used by players. However, that should change radically in the near future.
Alongside the release of the Warmind DLC, update milestone 1.2.0 will also arrive, which will include massive changes for exotic weapons. Bungie showcased three more examples of these in action.
Riskrunner
As the most recent example of the rework of exotic weapons, the studio showcased the submachine gun Riskrunner.
Currently: Thanks to its intrinsic perk, Arc Conductor, this weapon gets stronger when the user takes Arc damage. Kills with this weapon extend the duration of this overcharged state. Additionally, the player resists incoming Arc damage.
When Arc Conductor is active, the perk Superconductor further gives the chance for fired shots to become chain bolts and return ammunition to the magazine.

Revamped: Starting May 8, 2018, resistance to Arc damage will be increased so that you only take 50% damage from Arc sources when Arc Conductor is active. This will even work in PvP, where this feature was previously disabled. However, Riskrunner must also be actively equipped during the Crucible match.
The perk Superconductor will also be activated even if Riskrunner is equipped but currently stowed away.
It is currently only known that the masterwork version of this exotic submachine gun will give the weapon a significant boost in additional range.
Hard Light
The exotic auto rifle Hard Light will also undergo some interesting changes.
Currently: Thanks to the intrinsic perk Volatile Light, the projectiles of this auto rifle have no damage drop-off. Additionally, they penetrate their targets and ricochet off hard surfaces. Furthermore, you can change the elemental damage type of Hard Light in the weapon menu.

Revamped: With the release of DLC 2, just like the sniper rifle Borealis, Hard Light will be able to “fly” switch the elemental damage type. If you hold down the reload button, the exotic auto rifle will switch its damage type. You no longer need to go into the weapon menu for that.
Furthermore, projectiles that ricochet off surfaces will deal double damage in the future. This way, you can effectively suppress the opponent “around the corner” and ideally even eliminate them.
Borealis
The PS4-exclusive exotic sniper rifle Borealis has also been overhauled. This was urgently needed.
Currently: The intrinsic perk Foundations didn’t have much to offer exciting. If you hold down the reload button, Borealis switches its elemental damage type. Destroying an enemy shield with a shot transfers a round from reserves into the magazine via the perk Ion Return.

Revamped: After destroying an enemy shield with the appropriate elemental damage type, Borealis deals double damage until the next reload or damage type switch. This makes the weapon finally useful in PvE activities.
However, the weapon will soon also have considerable allure in PvP. If you destroy an opponent’s shield in the Crucible with a matching elemental projectile while their super is active, you’ll also receive double damage in PvP – and this lasts until your demise or until you switch the magazine of the weapon. This means with the revamped Borealis, you can achieve one-hit kills with body shots even against fully healthy opponents.
This is certainly very situational and will not happen all the time, but the sniper rifle will reward capable Guardians generously for their sniper skills.
What do you think about the changes to these 3 exotic weapons? Will they finally live up to their name?
