The release of Destiny 2 does not mean that all lights are going out for Destiny 1. It will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future.
On March 28, the Age of Triumph in Destiny began. This final content update is meant to prepare players with one last hurrah: “Soon it will be the end of Destiny 1. Celebrate your legends one more time. A new beginning awaits with Destiny 2.”
For several weeks it has been known that Destiny 2 will perform a hard reset. All your progress and all your items from Destiny 1 will be left behind – only the appearance of your character can be transferred. Story-wise, this is explained as follows: The Cabal invasion destroys the Tower and the Last City – and with that, all the stuff that the Guardians had is gone. This is referenced by Cayde-6 in the trailer for Destiny 2.
What happens to Destiny 1?
Numerous Guardians have invested a great deal of time and money into Destiny 1. Many are now uncertain about what will happen to the first part of Destiny when Destiny 2 launches. Can you still play Destiny 1 after September 8?
In an interview with Gamesradar, Community Manager DeeJ provides an answer to this question: Yes, Destiny 1 will still be available for players. Bungie plans to support Destiny 1 for the foreseeable future. The lights will not be turned off with the launch of D2.
If players decide to relive the things they did in Destiny 1, the game is still available for them, says DeeJ. And if someone starts their Guardian journey with Destiny 2 and wants to find out how it all began, the original stories are still waiting in Destiny 1.
How long the foreseeable future will last is unknown.
Looking ahead: Here is the roadmap for Destiny 2. Next, a gameplay reveal is coming!
