The new swords “Temptation’s Hook” and “Falling Guillotine” from Destiny 2 should not be missing from any weapon collection. We will reveal to you what makes the weapons so powerful and unique.
These weapons make hearts race: The most popular weapon type in Destiny are… hand cannons, no question – the Space Cowboys are into their revolvers. But close behind are swords. These were completely revamped last season and are currently one of the strongest weapon types overall.
In Season 11, now two new blades make players’ hearts race. MeinMMO takes a look at the two unique swords that bring fresh air to Destiny 2:
- the Temptation’s Hook
- the Falling Guillotine
The legendary swords rely on special attacks that have not been present in the game before and remind players of the great exotic siblings from the original. Because with the well-known uppercut, which almost all swords use, you hardly lure Guardians out from behind the fire.
Temptation’s Hook – The new bow thrower from Destiny 2
Special Attack: The Temptation’s Hook fires an arc disc during a heavy attack that slightly tracks enemies and shocks them multiple times.
This maneuver deals about three times as much damage as normal strikes – but also costs 8 ammunition. The only other sword that can be used at range is the exotic Black Talon.
Here’s how to obtain Temptation’s Hook: The new sword is primarily waiting for you in Umbral Engrams. There, it is part of the four pyramid weapons that you can specifically focus on. From Season Pass level 32, you can even specify the loot pool further.
Keep an eye out for these perks:
- Blade: Tempered Blade
- Sword Container: Swordmaster
- Perk 1: Unflinching Hits
- Perk 2: Whirlwind Blade (alternatively Vorpal Weapon)
This is how you play the Temptation’s Hook: The combination of fixed sword slashes paired with thrown lightning cages is just fun. If you want to get the most out of your Hook, you should follow this combo:
- Land 5 light strikes – build a damage bonus of 30%
- Heavy Attack
Continuously spamming the special attack looks cool, but consumes a lot of ammunition. Thanks to the perks, you receive ammunition and additional bonus damage from the light strikes. The high reload rate maximizes the heavy attacks.
You can also outsmart the nasty stomp mechanics of most bosses. Because the fast sword strikes “pull” your Guardian back to the boss again and again.
As a complement for your sword, we recommend the new exotic grenade launcher Restorative Collector. This way, you can set traps for your enemies or shoot bosses, quickly switch to the sword, and really give them a hard time.
Falling Guillotine – The Darkness Eater of Destiny 2
Special Attack: During a heavy attack, you spin the massive sword around your own axis and hit everything in the vicinity. The resulting Void vortex consumes 4 ammunition and deals a total of five times the damage of a normal attack.
Here’s how to obtain the Falling Guillotine: The sword awaits you in the Season Pass at rank 30. It is part of the “free track,” so it can also be obtained by non-paying Guardians.
From rank 45, premium users can additionally find the sword in specifically focused Umbral Engrams. It appears there along with the new pulse rifle “Cold Denial.” Now you can also hunt for your Godroll – but be aware of a bug during focusing.
Keep an eye out for these perks:
- Blade: Tempered Blade
- Sword Container: Swordmaster
- Perk 1: Unflinching Hits
- Perk 2: Whirlwind Blade
Even Gladd, the biggest Destiny streamer is returning for the new swords – even though he wanted to take a break:
This is how you play the Guillotine: Unlike the Temptation’s Hook, you want to go right into the enemy horde with the Darkness Eater 2.0. When you start your deadly spin, you thin out the army in seconds or hit strong enemies multiple times for massive damage.
Again, it is advisable to first build up your bonus damage with light strikes and then unleash the devastating vortex. Due to the low cost, you almost completely refund the heavy attack – the efficiency here is much better than with the Hook.
However, you should ideally start your special attack only when fully charged, so feel free to add a couple of light attacks to your combos. The Guillotine is currently the hardest-hitting sword in the sandbox and thus one of the best power weapons overall.
Pair the Darkness Eater with the stealthy exo-star of Season 11: Trinity Ghoul. This way, you have a ranged weapon at hand that provides excellent add control and complements the sword.
What do you think of the two blades that bring fresh air, massive fun, and crazy damage to Destiny 2? Who is your favorite – the Temptation’s Hook or the Falling Guillotine?
If the pure power of the new swords is not enough, you can transform them into true monsters with special mods. More on this can be found here: Destiny 2: With this build for every class, you dominate the new contact event
