In Destiny 2, a popular exotic pulse rifle from the predecessor is back – the Outbreak Prime. In its new form, the weapon is now called Perfected Outbreak and can be earned now. We will show you how.
So it’s true! As some fans had speculated, Destiny 2 is bringing a third exotic weapon into the game as part of Season 6. Shortly after the new Update 2.2.2 went live on May 7, the quest for the Perfected Outbreak was discovered.
With combined efforts, the community has already mastered all the steps leading you to the new weapon. In this guide, we explain step by step how to acquire the new exotic firearm.
How to get the Perfected Outbreak – Here’s what you need to do
What is “Perfected Outbreak”? This is a new form of the Outbreak Prime, a popular exotic pulse rifle from Destiny 1. This weapon was tied to a massive puzzle in the first series installment, which was solved in the context of a large-scale community event.
What makes the Perfected Outbreak special? The Perfected Outbreak is also an exotic pulse rifle. The rate of fire is 450.
The intrinsic perk is called “Corruption Spreads”. Critical hit kills and rapidly consecutive hits with the weapon generate swarms of SIVA nanites. With the perk “Parasitic”, the new Prime deals more damage to enemies based on the number of SIVA nanites stuck to them.
The Heroic Adventure “Bad Neighbors” on Titan
Requirement for the quest: Apparently, you must first complete the three-part quest “The Enemy of My Enemy” on Titan for the Prime. This quest is given by Sloane, who is located in the Siren Watch, New Pacific Arkology. This step actually leads you to the quest for the Rat King. However, if you already have this weapon, you should have completed the quest accordingly.
You don’t actually need the Rat King for the Prime quest. During “The Enemy of My Enemy,” you will encounter a Fallen named Mithrax. You shouldn’t kill him, as you will later fight alongside him for the new Prime. However, you must have encountered him here already; otherwise, the Prime quest will not trigger.
Alternatively, you can join a friend (after he has opened the door), who already has this quest and was able to open the door for you for the Prime quest.
How to start the quest: The first step leading you to the new weapon can be found on Titan. You need to complete the heroic adventure “Bad Neighbors” (Power Level 320). You don’t even have to finish it completely.
How to obtain the Fallen Transponder for the new Prime: Start the adventure “Bad Neighbors” and fight your way to the room with the first Screamer and several other Hive enemies.
Eliminate the Hive and the Screamer and go through the door behind it. As soon as you pass through, turn immediately to the left. There you will see a shutter that you can now unlock.
Interact with the shutter and enter the room behind it. There you will find the Fallen Transponder on a table. You can now view it in your inventory.
Search Lost Sectors for the Nodes of the Fallen Transponder
Now it’s about unlocking the six nodes of the Fallen Transponder. You can see these when you inspect the transponder.
To do this, you need to find six node data in Lost Sectors – four of them in the EDZ on Earth and two on Nessus. The order does not matter.
On Earth, you need to visit the following Lost Sectors:
- Node 1: Outskirts – The Drain
- Node 2: Outskirts – Whispering Falls
- Node 3: The Tangle – Atrium
- Node 4: The Tangle – Widow’s Walk
On Nessus, you need to visit these two sectors:
- Node 5: Echo’s Edge – The Carrion Pit
- Node 6: Exodus Black – The Rift
You can find the exact path from the spawn point as well as the exact locations of the individual devices in this guide video from Nexxoss Gaming (from 2:30):

Rendezvous at the Farm and the Mission “The Hour Zero”
Once you have unlocked all six nodes, encrypted coordinates for a meeting point will be presented to you in the center of the transponder. Travel to the Farm (via the EDZ map).
Once there, run directly from the spawn point in front of the first building on the right side to the cellar entrance.
Go down there and search for the Fallen Mithrax between the shelves. Interact with him. This will start the mission “The Hour Zero”. It takes you to the old tower in the city, and Mithrax will accompany you at times.
But beware: You only have 20 minutes for this task. The mission’s progress is sometimes complicated. Additionally, the enemies have a proud power level of 690. There are also some puzzles to solve.
Therefore, this mission is a tough challenge even for teams of max-level Guardians. Alone, the task is likely unmanageable even at the current level cap of 700. If you have problems with the mission, you can find a detailed guide to “The Hour Zero” here:
The Reward: Once you complete the mission, you will receive the Perfected Outbreak at the end.
What’s more? At the same time, a heroic mode of the mission will be unlocked just like with the quest for Whisper of the Worm, in which you can earn the exotic Masterwork Catalyst for the Perfected Outbreak. This is obtained the first time you master the heroic mission.
What does the catalyst of the new Prime do? The catalyst causes the SIVA nanites to deal more damage. Enemies that still have nanites attached when killed generate additional nanites.
How to level the catalyst: You can only partially level the new catalyst in the mission “The Hour Zero”. Kill enemies with precision shots from the Perfected Prime. This can be done anywhere. Additionally, collect SIVA float material. This works only through the respective mission.
At the end of a run, you will receive 100x float material, which corresponds to 20% of the total progress. Moreover, by solving the treasure puzzle in the heroic version of “The Hour Zero”, you can snag another 13%. Thus, you can achieve a total of 33% progress weekly. Either way, you will need several weeks to completely level the catalyst.
