In Destiny 2, you can now turn the exotic bow “Leviathan’s Breath” into a masterwork in Season 12. We will tell you where to find the catalyst and what the weapon has to offer.
This is the exotic in question: The combat bow “Leviathan’s Breath” was introduced in Fall 2019 with Season 8. To this day, a year later, this exotic is the only heavy bow in Destiny 2 – it requires Power ammo.
However, Leviathan’s Breath fires not weak arrows, but gigantic bolts.
- Thanks to the perk “Big Game Hunter”, these hit so hard that enemies are knocked back several meters.
- Yet neither that, nor the rather high damage or the intrinsic anti-champion function could help the bow gain popularity.
Now the Season of the Hunt has started in Destiny 2, bringing appropriately a catalyst for the struggling exotic. MeinMMO tells you how to turn Leviathan’s Breath into a masterwork and what the bow can do then.
The Masterwork Catalyst for Leviathan’s Breath in Destiny 2
Where can you find the catalyst? The catalyst for Leviathan’s Breath is a random drop. You do not obtain it through a quest or during a mission. There is a chance to find the item with every powerful enemy you defeat using the exotic bow.
How to do it faster: If you can’t wait and want to get the catalyst as quickly as possible, there is a farming trick:
- Visit the Lost Sector Widow’s Walk in the EDZ
- Defeat the Captain and his 4 Nightmare Servitors here with the bow
- This way, you take down 5 powerful enemies in one minute
- Exit the sector and start over – after a few runs, you will have the catalyst
- Stock up on heavy ammo at one of the many public events in the EDZ via flag
- You can find more details on the popular farming method here on MeinMMO
If you did not acquire the bow in Season 8, do not despair. Visit the Exotic kiosk in the Tower and buy it there.
How do you turn the bow into a masterwork?
This is what you need to do: To turn Leviathan’s Breath into a full masterwork, you need to level the catalyst. In this case, you have 2 options that you can mix:
- Get kills with the bow itself (1500)
- Defeat special Scorn-born (gives about 15% progress): Here it does not matter how you complete the hunt objectives – the important thing is that the bow is somewhere in your inventory
Please note: You start the special Scorn-born hunts with your bait from Season 12. Make sure you insert a mod in the first slot that indicates as package content: “Leviathan’s Breath Catalyst Progress”. Just like in the picture:
How good is Leviathan’s Breath after its upgrade?
This is what the masterwork does: The exotic only receives one improvement as a masterwork: +80 inventory size.
- This means in practice that you can carry 5 more heavy arrows.
- Instead of 10 shots, you will have 15 shots in reserve
How good is this in practice? The significantly larger reserve definitely benefits the bow. However, this upgrade does not nearly suffice to make Leviathan’s Breath viable.
Many Guardians would have preferred that the painfully slow draw time or the sluggish handling be addressed as a masterwork. Because the biggest criticism of the bow still stands: Leviathan’s Breath cannot compete against the strong exotic competition.
Especially with regard to the masterwork catalyst for another exotic bow, this is very disappointing. Because the bow Trinity Ghoul received its upgrade in Season 11 and immediately became a top exotic.
Are you an exotic collector and need every catalyst in your collection? Or are you a hunter and find Leviathan’s Breath just super fitting for the current season? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
