Recently, Destiny 2 showcased the new seasonal weapon for the upcoming Season 12 – a firearm that all players are supposed to hunt down. However, the design of the gun reignites an old, heated debate – even though it won’t be available until Beyond Light.
What is the new weapon about? As part of the current Season 11, Bungie has already offered another glimpse of the upcoming Season 12, which will launch with the release of the new autumn expansion Beyond Light. Recently, the studio introduced the new sniper “Adored” following the Stasis subclasses.
The Adored will be the first seasonal weapon in Destiny 2, with one being introduced each season from Season 12 onwards. Bungie is essentially reintroducing a popular feature – the pinnacle weapons, but likely in a toned-down form.
These are special firearms that many Guardians have chased after or are still pursuing. They are supposed to be among the best that Destiny 2 has to offer. The Adored thus represents the replacement for some of the best weapons in Destiny 2.
However, right now, the gun is causing confusion and frustration rather than excitement and anticipation among some players – and this is despite the fact that it cannot even be earned yet and we essentially know nothing about it. But why?
This is the reason for the frustration and debates: The issue lies in the appearance or visual design of the Adored. Many Guardians view it as an absolute blatant reskin of the much-loved sniper “Beloved”.
The model of the Adored is essentially a 1-to-1 copy of the Beloved, differing only in a few, mostly hardly noticeable points. The most noticeable difference is that the color scheme is slightly different and the Adored is wrapped in cloth – in the appearance of the Leviathan gear.
In short: Bungie has apparently thrown any creativity overboard, simply wrapped the Beloved in cloth, and is now selling it as a new weapon that all Guardians are supposed to chase in Season 12. Many players can only shake their heads about it.
Incidentally, according to a leak regarding Beyond Light that correctly predicted the Adored weeks ago, Bungie allegedly didn’t put much effort into the appearance of the new sniper.
According to the leak, the Adored will have poor PvP perks and players should just stick with their “Beloved” for the Crucible (without level advantages).
This is how players react: On social media and reddit, the new sniper reignited the discussion about asset recycling – the repurposing of resources – here at MeinMMO as well.
Some Guardians fear for the creativity in the upcoming seasons when even the successor to pinnacle weapons is slapped together so carelessly – especially given the fact that Bungie is about to retire numerous weapons and reserves the right to bring them back later. There are hopes that this is not a representative example of possible returning firearms.
Otherwise, the design of the Adored has earned a lot of mockery and has already become the basis for various memes. Some look forward to the beloved adept weapons, which are set to return in Season 12 in the Trials. Yet, they imagine the new firearms to be anything but creative:
By the way, the recently revealed new armor sets that can be earned through core activities are also not going down well at all. Some point out that even the initial sets in Destiny 1 looked significantly better.
This is Bungie’s response: Bungie typically remains quiet on such issues, but this time the criticism was apparently so loud that they felt compelled to respond.
In a humorous tweet regarding the “freshly discovered Mountaintop successor,” community manager dmg04 noted that the feedback regarding the Adored did not go unheard by Bungie and that he would pass on the criticism to the developers.
With his remark that the Adored may look like the Beloved, but has its own personality, he indeed generated some additional laughs.
What do you think about this? Do you care about the design or such obvious recycling, as long as the weapon plays well in the end? Or is Bungie going too far with the “new” Adored? What is your overall stance on the repurposing of resources in Destiny 2?
And while we are joking about the Mountaintop grenade launcher here: Destiny 2 is nerfing a weapon that is going into retirement
