In Destiny 2 , Guardians are currently all crazy about the new Exotic Symmetry. We clarify what the weapon is capable of and where you can get the scout.
This weapon is about: Symmetry deals Arc damage, is used in the energy weapons slot, and requires primary ammo. The Exotic is part of the very fast-firing scout rifles. The prominent ritual weapon Randy’s throwing knife belongs to the same family.
The unique Exo perks of Symmetry are:
- Revolution – The weapon is fired fully automatically and can switch to an Arc seeker mode. Hold reload to activate. The Arc seekers have tracking and follow targeted enemies.
- Dynamikladung – Precision hits build Dynamikladung. The Arc seekers become stronger with charges, and the magazine partially reloads.
The rapid-fire scout also has a decent magazine size of 20 shots and above-average stability.
How do I get the Exotic? The weapon is acquired through the seasonal rank rewards. To get Symmetry in your hands, no elaborate quest needs to be completed, nor do you have to rely on loot luck.
Owners of the current season pass receive the weapon together with a thematic armor set already at rank 1. You can start using the scout right at the season’s launch.
Don’t worry, no Guardian will go empty-handed. All other players have access to Symmetry starting from level 35 in the ‘free track’.
The new scout in practice
This is how you play Symmetry in PvE: The scout rifle proves to be a real powerhouse against the Darkness. You want to accumulate as many Dynamik charges as possible with precise hits and then activate Revolution. You keep your charges even when switching weapons and there is no time pressure after activation.
Only after the first shot with Revolution does a 10-second timer start ticking. The now available Arc seekers deal a small AoE explosion (area damage) and track enemies very accurately. However, they cannot score critical hits.
You deal this amount of damage against the Ogre in the Lost Sector on Titan:
- Without charging for an Arc seeker, you deal 1150 damage.
- A Dynamik charge adds 1488 damage. That’s a solid 30% bonus damage.
- 2 Dynamik charges deal 1842 damage. This is 60% more damage than the base value.
- Your damage increases by approximately 30% per additional charge.
- The maximum is 15 stacks, dealing 6330 damage. This corresponds to an astonishing 450% extra damage.
The Exotic performs well in PvE: With a five-fold Revolution stack, you deal more DPS (damage per second) with the Arc seekers than with regular scout shots.
Ideally, you accumulate as many Dynamik charges as possible in PvE and then unleash your devastating damage on the enemies at level 15. The large magazine should allow many precision hits in a row, and upon activation of Revolution, you receive additional ammo back.
Furthermore, Symmetry benefits significantly from the seasonal artifact. In Season 9, Guardians can expect many mods that enhance scout rifles. From faster reloading to better aiming, there’s a lot available. The only downside is: As an Exotic, no mods like anti-barrier rounds can be used on Symmetry.
This is what Symmetry can do in PvP: Even in the Crucible, the scout rifle doesn’t have to hide. The damage values against other Guardians are as follows:
- A headshot deals 47 damage.
- A body shot deals 28 damage.
The TTK (time to kill) of rapid-fire scouts in PvP is thus 0.93 seconds. You need 5 hits if the opponent has maximum resilience (201 health).
It gets interesting when Symmetry has built Revolution stacks through precise hits. If you hold reload, you activate the Arc seekers. The damage values are as follows:
- Without charge, an Arc seeker deals 50 damage.
- 1x Revolution deals 61 damage (22% more).
- 2x Revolution deals 70 damage (15% more).
- 15x Revolution hits for 124 damage and is the maximum buff.
This is how you play the Exo scout in PvP: In contrast to PvE, damage does not increase by a fixed amount in the Crucible. With each additional charge, you receive less percentage bonus damage (diminishing returns).
You want to land some precision hits first and build Dynamik charges. Afterwards, you activate the pesky Arc seekers. Although this slightly decreases the rate of fire (150 RPM), the tracking gives the opponent little chance.
This is how Dynamik charges affect PvP:
- With a 2x Revolution stack, you can eliminate opponents with three Arc seekers. The TTK is approximately 1.2 seconds.
- If you have landed six precision hits and have a six-fold Revolution stack, you start taking down enemies with just two shots. This works on Guardians with less than a resilience value of 7.
- With 7 Revolution stacks, you definitely take down any Guardian with just two shots. You deal 102 damage then. You now have an incredible TTK of 0.6 seconds.
You see, it generally doesn’t make sense to build more than seven Dynamik charges.
Symmetry gets even stronger
This is how you obtain and level the Masterwork Catalyst: Like many other Exotics, Symmetry has a catalyst. This grants the already powerful weapons new perks or a bonus to their stats.
The catalyst for Symmetry is granted to you after a quest. This is called New Improvements and can be picked up from gunsmith Banshee-44 in the Tower. For quest progress, you need completions in these activities while having Symmetry in your inventory:
- Sun Dial runs
- Gambit matches
- Crucible matches
- Playlist strikes
- Nightfalls
Similar to Erian’s Oath, you receive a booster through the season pass, which significantly accelerates progress.
The exact effects of the Masterwork Catalyst are not known at this time, but the maximum number of Revolution stacks is expected to increase.
Our conclusion on Symmetry: We recommend every Guardian to take the new Exo scout for a spin. Whether you are fighting against the Cabal on Mercury or showing other players where the hammer hangs in PvP: Symmetry is worth seeing.
With the Exotic, Bungie has created a very strong weapon that is also very easy to obtain. Therefore, everyone should have the chance to see for themselves what Symmetry is all about.
