In Destiny 2, the second step of the mysterious festival quest is now live. This lets Guardians play detective in the European Dead Zone and contains a small Easter egg that hints at the fate of the missing Cryptarch.
After most Guardians had to wait a whole week for the next quest step, the murder quest continues with the weekly reset on October 6. In the end, there is at least a nice Easter egg that many players might have overlooked.
The Mysterious Festival Quest in Destiny 2 – Here’s How to Proceed with Step 2
What is it about? As part of the recent Halloween event, Festival of the Lost, a mysterious quest began to conclude the celebrations.
This task lets Guardians play detective and clarify a possible murder case surrounding the former Reef Cryptarch Master Ives. The quest spans several weeks. Now the second step is live.
How to Get the 2nd Quest Step: If you haven’t started the quest yet, you should talk to Amanda Holliday. You also need to have completed the first step before the quest continues with the second step.
If you have successfully completed the first step, you don’t need to do much for the second step. It will be given automatically; the quest updates without any action on your part. Just check your bounties in your inventory.
What you need to do in Step 2: First, the second part of the quest sends you to the following three Lost Sectors – all located in the Trostland area of the EDZ:
- Atrium
- End Station East
- Widow’s Walk

There, you are supposed to look for more clues about Master Ives’ whereabouts. What initially sounds like exciting detective work quickly turns out to be simply completing the Lost Sectors. You just need to run through the respective sectors, take out the boss at the end, and loot the chest. This step doesn’t require more.
However, you won’t find anything in these three Lost Sectors, and so the quest also sends you to the Lost Sector Whisperfall in the outskirts area – also in the EDZ.
If you also successfully completed this sector, you are done with the second step and will need to be patient again – most likely until the next weekly reset on November 13.
Did you notice this Easter egg? In the Lost Sector Whisperfall, observant Guardians stumbled upon a nice Easter egg that hints at the probable fate of Master Ives. However, this little clue has been overlooked by numerous Guardians.
Once you complete the sector, the quest progress is updated. It mentions among other things his tattered robe from the Cryptarch. And you can actually find this robe if you look around a bit in the last room where the boss fight takes place.
However, this find raises some serious concerns. The robe is displayed like a trophy and has a large bullet hole in the heart area. It seems that things are really not looking good for the missing Cryptarch.
Moreover, the robe features the symbol of the Fallen faction House of Dusk, suggesting that the Fallen are behind the disappearance of the former Reef Cryptarch.
This makes the already suspected return to the Cosmodrome within the quest increasingly likely, as the Fallen on Earth were primarily active there. Whether the exotic machine gun Thunderlord will await Guardians there, we will probably find out at the latest after the next weekly reset. Because, as Bungie has officially confirmed, the quest spans three weeks.
What fans think about the second quest step: The fans are almost unanimously disappointed by the second quest step. Now even the last hope of many Guardians that the quest could gain momentum has been shattered.
Even if the last step should actually lead to the Cosmodrome, most fans don’t expect any exciting storyline, possible twist, or special staging of the final step anymore. The anticipation of a potential return to the place where Guardians’ journey began has taken a noticeable hit.
Many simply envisioned more when Bungie boldly announced the quest as a sort of concluding highlight of the Halloween celebrations. However, some fans noted positively that the second quest step at least directly related to the fate of the missing Cryptarch through the Easter egg. Even if it wasn’t particularly creatively designed, just like the first step.
